Banbury Cross Players pride themselves on offering their audience a broad range of performances. Their Spring 2017 production of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” is no different.
Not only will audiences have the opportunity of seeing “in the round” performances at The Mill Arts Centre but “The Tempest” team are taking their show on the road with an additional two performances at Sulgrave Manor, Oxfordshire - the Tudor home of George Washington’s ancestors. “We had a fantastic time when we performed Twelfth Night at Sulgrave Manor in 2014" says co-director, Linda Shaw, "and we are looking forward to making a return visit” .
Shakespeare’s final play, “The Tempest” is choc-full of the poetry, drama and comedy you’d expect from the greatest playwright of all time. BCP’s production adds original songs, dance and colourful costume to the mix (but not a hint of CGI..)
This is the powerful story of former-Duke-turned-magician, Prospero - usurped by his brother, and abandoned on an island with his daughter. With only twisted monster, Caliban, and magical sprit Ariel, for company, Prospero sets about gaining revenge on his brother by ship-wrecking him (and other members of the Courts of Milan and Naples) on his island. With all his enemies in one place, will Prospero’s revenge be harsh or conciliatory?
