Before heading to several art fairs I spent a morning with conservator Olaf Unsoeld discussing a future collaboration. Stay tuned: you will be amazed at how this project develops.
After weeks of solitude in the studio the art fairs provided a much-needed visual boost. The works I gravitated to the most challenged the physicality of the two-dimensional plane— cutting into or building out of the material, or asserting a sense of touch. The quiet counterpoint to this approach was Marsha Cottrell's atmospheric LaserJet prints. Cottrell creates rich black tones by running the print through the printer multiple times, altering the digital image after each run in response to the previous layer.
