The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality through advocacy and collaboration with its members and the larger community.

We encourage you to support our Chamber member businesses and local economy and “Shop Chamber Members first”!
Dear Chamber Members,

With the 2017 session in full swing, your Legislative Affairs Committee has been and will continue to meet regularly as we monitor issues likely to have an impact on the business community in South Lane County. As we continue moving forward, the committee is interested in your thoughts about issues we are already watching, as well as others that may have escaped our attention.
Currently of concern to our committee are some issues that effect relationships between employers and employees. Predictive scheduling continues to gain traction. The bill, SB 828 is scheduled for a work session this Wednesday. SB 828 would require an employer to pay a minimum of 4 hours of work if an employee is called in, but due to the employer, does not work an entire shift. One of the co-sponsors of SB 828 is listed as our own Senator Floyd Prozanski.
We are also watching the paid family and medical leave act that would require employers to give paid time off work for child births or adoptions.  The family leave program, HB 3087, would be funded by a 1 percent tax that would be split between the employer and employee. We are interested in learning how these and other bills might impact your individual business so that we can best evaluate how we might advocate for everyone.
You are welcome and encouraged to contact any member of the Chamber's Legislative Committee or Chamber Director Travis Palmer with any concerns or questions. Your opinions are valued and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Cameron Reiten, Cottage Grove Legislative Committee Chair, 541-767-8861 or Cameron@knnd.com
