Welcome to the new website and community. Pip and I have been working since January to migrate everything from the old TILE site to one that has far more functionality. Over the coming weeks we will add more tools and resources and more readings. Please send out details of the site to your network – we really want to build the network over coming weeks.
The new model positions employability as self and career literacy and the measure has been approved as part of the professional placement hours in four engineering programs.
The monthly expert forums start with Professor Margaret Lloyd, who asks: “How do you sustain whole-of-program change?” In other news, almost half the 19 partner institutions have now begun their projects, and over 1,000 students and educators have engaged in workshops.

In May, Professor Margaret Lloyd asks: how do you sustain whole-of-program change?
There is a great deal of excitement and momentum around course design and whole-of-program changes. Teams are formed who typically have initial carriage of new programs and are thus well placed to implement the published changes and to maintain fidelity with the tacit intentions of the design. But what then happens between the halcyon days of beginning and when the next review is called. How do we maintain the planned cohesion and sequence and steer a course between precise and locked prescription and laissez-faire? Is course cohesion an impossible goal?

Students assess their self and career literacy
The self and career literacy measure is now ready for students to use online. Each participant receives an individual summary report and a feedback guide with which to create their personalised profile chart; academics receive aggregated data. If your whole cohort completes the tool, I will come and workshop the findings! Please be in touch for more information.

Visits to South Australia and Europe
April included a workshop titled From theory to practice: Equipping and enabling Australia’s educators to embed employability across higher education for South Australian colleagues. The workshop and a day of meetings was hosted by Flinders University in Adelaide and attracted academic and professional colleagues from UniSA, Flinders and Adelaide University. Also in April, I travelled to Salzburg to attend a European arts education conference and engage with European partners.

Employability symposium for engineering, UWA
In early May I will work with Anne Gardner and Sally Male in an industry seminar for engineering students at UWA. Students will have completed preliminary work for each of the fellowships and will engage in workshops to unpack the results. Also in May, almost 500 1st year engineering students and staff will complete and then workshop the self-assessment measure of self and career literacy.

Brisbane and Melbourne visits
17th -19th May
May visits include institutional projects in music, engineering and career services at QUT, and music at Griffith University. Multiple advisory group members and other fellows are also meeting to talk about the Fellowship and share their expertise. In Melbourne we meet with industry partners who are keen to enhance placement experience.

NETMCDO conference
23rd May
May also includes a visit to Colburn School of Music (colburnschool.edu) in Los Angeles, going on to the national conference for music career officers in the US. I will participate in an expert panel and present a workshop on engaging reluctant teachers and students in career thinking. I am hoping that strategies for student engagement can be shared via the site by mid-year.

Indiana residency
29th May - 2nd June
Next on the May calendar is a residency with Professor Fred Rees in Indiana, to look at the music and science programs and commence their institutional project.

HERDSA conference
28th - 30th June
In June at HERDSA, I will co-chair the expert stream on employability with Lorna Froud. Chris Rust joins us on one day 1, and our topic is Enhancing Curricular transformation by embedding cognitive employability.

AAEE conference 2017
10th -13th December 2017
Working with Dr Sally Male, I will moderate a special session at the 28th Australasian Association for Engineering Education conference.
