Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

WANTED
We are in need of newspaper and re-cycled paper for the art rooms. Please bring some in if you have any at home. Thanks!
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

SCHOOL FEES

Our Bursar Phyllis, will be in touch regarding fees and fee related issues. Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)

Ingrid who is in charge of Stay and Play( aftercare) will put cream on the children for the afternoon. The children can wear any hat to school. Any hat that they feel comfortable wearing!!!

Welcome back to term 2. We trust that you had a happy holiday and a Blessed Easter.  I will be sending home a copy of our themes for the term. Please save them and display them in your child's room or on the fridge as this will help you to know in advance the letters that we are learning. In this regard I urge you to continue to help your child do his/ her " homework" and let them bring objects, draw pictures or cut out pictures for the Language/ Letterland Table. We will be having student in our class this term but this does not affect our programme and my teaching as the student’s needs are accommodated within our day and routine.
I am at present attending mathematics workshops to introduce the new maths curriculum to be implemented in the future. Our maths themes incorporate all the concepts required by CAPS and the new curriculum. It may seem that we repeat concepts but it is done to ensure that the children understand the concept and every time a concept is repeated it is also extended.
We work together in lessons and small groups and children at times find this difficult as they have to share and take turns. In our EQ theme we will be role playing situations and discussion ways to resolve problems in an amicable and friendly way. We will discuss feelings - anger, frustration, feeling annoyed- we will discuss what we need to do when we feel this, what has caused the feeling, how do I cope. The children will be given tasks to do together eg set up an obstacle course, build a puzzle, do a drawing following a key card.
In our general theme we will discuss pets- compare similarities and differences, how to care for pets and relate it to maths more, less and equal according to the number of pets in the class. Last year we had a dog arrive at school for the day. This is unfortunately not permissible but if your child has a pet in a cage and would like to bring it for a visit please talk to me and we can make arrangements for the pet to visit.
We will be celebrating Mother's Day on Friday 12 May. We understand that most of you work and are unable to stay for the whole morning so I suggest you organise to spend some time at the school between 8-15 and 11-30 am. We will explain to the children that moms will be visiting and staying for a short time but that they cannot stay for the whole morning, if you can that is wonderful.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Fri 21 April Starfish Cake Sale R 5
Thur 27 and Fri 28 Freedom day and school Holiday the school will be closed.
Mon 1 May School closed.
Fri 12 May Mother's Day at school. All moms can visit between 8-15 am and 11-30 am.

Greetings all,
A warm welcome to you all to our second term!!! Trusting you had a blessed short break and are looking forward to this term.
Our theme this week is Shapes. We will help children identify basic shapes and shapes in our environment and will incorporate our Emotional literacy theme working together to make and identify shapes. They will also learn to share, take turns and resolve conflicts in groups. At home, lead by example, calm down first and then correct the unwanted behaviour. Encourage them to pack away their toys in order. Look and comment on shapes in nature and your environment.
Just a reminder, please remember a warm blanket and a pillow for aftercare children and warm spare clothes and an extra pair of socks.
Enjoy your week!
