What's the idea behind the Medics on Scene Training Trust?
- To educate the community on the Chain of Survival concept.
- Provide FREE education and training in CPR, AED use and First Aid to clubs, schools, and community groups.
- To promote the importance of having publicly accessible AEDs and raise funds to supply and install AED units in public areas, in particular sporting venues where large groups of people gather.
When a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs time is critical - it's the first people on scene, not the Advanced Paramedics, that have the biggest opportunity to make a difference to the patient's chances of survival.
We are educating and training lay-responders, the unqualified bystanders that want to help, so they can make a difference and help save a life in those first few minutes before trained professionals arrive.
It's those first few minutes after a SCA that are absolutely critical - for every minute that passes, the patient's chance of survival decreases by approximately 10%. Our Emergency Medical Services do a fantastic job and target to get there within 8 minutes, 50% of the time ... but do a few sums and you can see why it's the people who are there when it happens who have the best chance of making a difference to the outcome.
