On May 24, 2017 a collaborative art reception was put on by three students-- two from Santa Barbara High School, Erin Lazaro and Brenda Ocampo, and one from Santa Barbara Junior High School, Jennifer Gonzalez-- with the assistance of two tutors. The tutors, Laura Addison and Julie Aguilar, worked with the students to work on pieces to convey how each artist feels about depression, gratefulness, their self-esteem, suicide prevention and friendship. It was a creative process that was worked on for several weeks where the artists were able to paint, write, and record creatively in a way that allowed them to grow into more mature young ladies. The art reception was held at the Santa Barbara Police Activities League during their end of the year celebration. As a final lesson on self-love, the students were taken to get makeovers for the reception. The students were able to see their family and friends enjoy the art they had created, and they all felt very proud.
