White Lake Boat Launch project update . . . . .

April 27, 2017

UPDATE: Duck Lake Road Boat Launch

New closing date is June 5, 2017

At the WLCL meeting last night, DNR representative Bill Althoff announced that the project to renovate the DNR Boating Access Site on Duck Lake Road has been delayed. The project is now expected to begin on Monday, June 5, 2017. The launch ramp will be closed on this date when the contractor fences off the site to begin construction.

This delay will allow boaters to use the launch site during the Memorial Day weekend. However, the site is now expected to be closed until after the Labor Day weekend.

The WLCL is negotiating with some of the Homeowner Associations on the lake to allow WLCL members access to their private launch ramps during the closure. Details will be provided closer to the start of the project.

The White Lake Citizens League continues to express its disappointment that the DNR plans do not allow space for the future installation of a Boat Wash Station, promoted by many organizations as one of the best practices to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species into our lake. (See the Michigan Clean Boats, Clean Waters Program.) Ironically, these practices are promoted on the State of Michigan Invasive Species website.

We have also expressed our concern that the project plans do not adequately address the problems with the close proximity of the marina docks to the ramp, especially on windy days.
