Mentors-in-Residence (MiR) - Meet & Greet

We are preparing the launch of the Mentor-in-Residence program by hosting two Meet & Greet sessions with the mentors. 

May 16, 4-6pm – Dr Lee Errett and Dr Peter Lewis
May 23, 4-6pm – Frances Silverman and Sandy Schwenger

The Mentor-in-Residence (MiR) Program will help TRP students achieve their learning objectives; get feedback and support on their Capstone project ideas, and receive mentorship on career planning.  The program allows you to engage with accomplished and established individuals from a range of backgrounds to expand your thinking, networks and skills.  It is an opportunity for you to:

* Ask for feedback on projects and ideas;
* Receive personal or professional career advice;
* Tap into extended networks;
* Receive feedback on implementation and execution plans;
* Gain perspectives and solutions for challenges or problems;
* Build relationships with accomplished professionals.

Recruitment Update 


For all those who helped us share our promotional email to support our recruitment efforts - thank you! The application deadline for fall admission has been extended to June 1st. As we enter the final throws of recruitment, we have one Information Session May 3rd, and Application Workshop, May 8th. If you are able to attend an information session and give potential students your perspective of the program, it would be appreciated. All the dates are listed on the TRP website here.

We would appreciate your continued efforts to help us get the word out about the program to your former university department, your department at work, your lab mates, your friends and any other networks.

Graduate Management Consulting Association (GMCA) - Annual Conference

Our 6th Annual Strategic Management Consulting Conference is now open for registration! This conference aims to educate graduate students about current trends in the consulting industry as well as to create an opportunity for students to engage with professionals from top consulting firms. The conference consists of a dynamic and informative two-day forum about consulting and an engaging business case competition. 2nd Annual Innovative Perspectives in Neuroscience Conference, Baycrest

The Research Training Centre (RTC) is hosting its 2nd Annual Innovative Perspectives in Neuroscience Conference at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest. This conference will provide attendees (researchers, clinicians, staff, and trainees across all disciplines and all levels from undergraduate to post-doctoral fellow) with the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical, and interactive experience with not-for-profit and industry leaders as well as explore exciting careers in neuroscience. The itinerary for the day includes guest presentations, a networking lunch, and a case competition.
 

1. Guest Presentations - All are welcome!
The morning will kick-off with guest speakers from diverse domains in neuroscience including industry and not-for-profit organizations. Participants will learn more about the future of neuroscience and potential vocational avenues that can leverage their academic training. 
 
 
2. Trainee Meet-and-Greet Networking Lunch (Reserved for Undergraduates, Master's and PhD Students, and Post-doctoral Fellows)
Lunch will be provided for attendees registered for the Networking Lunch. Participants will be able to meet and connect with industry, not-for-profit, and government leaders; gain insights into prospective careers; and discuss avenues for professional development. Additionally, pointers will be provided to guests to help them navigate through a networking lunch experience.

3. Case Competition (Case competition presentations open to all! Case competitors restricted to trainees and research staff)
Interested trainees and research staff (e.g., research assistants, lab managers but not faculty) can register as a three-person team to compete in a data analytics case competition, with the opportunity to win major networking opportunities and a cash prize of up to $1,000. Individuals can register as part of a pre-formed team or ask to be put into a team by the conference organizers. Teams can only have one research staff member per team.
Teams will be invited to a Data Launch event at Baycrest to gain insider knowledge on approaches and techniques to analyse the case competition data. Submitted case reports will be judged and finalist teams will be invited to pitch their solutions and recommendations to an expert judging panel on the day of the conference. You will get tips and resources on biking safely in the city. We will also go over the basic maintenance you can do on your bike at home, and talk about when you should bring
it into the shop for some more thorough care.

2017 Annual NICE Knowledge Exchange - Submit your Abstract & Poster! 


We are writing to inform you that on May 10th, the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE) will host the 2017 Annual NICE Knowledge Exchange (ANKE) at the University of Toronto's Hart House. The theme of this year's conference is "advantAGE", and our program features renowned experts in the field of aging presenting interactive workshops, sessions on various dimensions of gerontology, panel discussions and a student research competition. The 2017 Annual NICE Knowledge Exchange (ANKE2016) will provide a platform to discuss the latest social sciences and humanities research. It will connect practices and policies to the dynamic shift in the view of aging as an image of growth and development, enhancing older adults? physical health, well-being, autonomy, and choices.

The National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly is also sponsoring a student poster competition at the 2017 Annual NICE Knowledge Exchange. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a poster competition, presenting their research that relates to any field of aging. Prizes will be awarded to the best Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD poster. The deadline for submitting abstracts for students is Wednesday April 26th, 2017.
