Gardener's Notes:
Ok, Spring is a wee bit late to come, but warmer temperatures this week are sure to get us all in the spirit.  Here is our suggested gardening to-dos:
 

Freshen up garden beds, pull weeds, prep the soil.  We really like the G&B Planting Mix for this.  Add about 1-2 inches into your garden, and either rake in or just plant right into it.  It is a delicious blend of organic nutrients and compost, just right to start plants off right.  After your plants are growing, topdress with G&B Harvest Supreme soil amendment to help add nutrients all season.  BONUS:  both of these products are buy 3 get 1 free
  

Plant cool season veggies.  This includes almost anything you would eat for the leaf, stem or root, such as cabbage, spinach, lettuce, carrots, beets, chard, brussels sprouts.  You can plant tomatoes with adequate protection (wall-o-water or similar), but realistically the soil temperatures, are really not high enough to justify planting peppers in our opinion. 
 

Prepare for pests (and frost).  Floating row covers are an organic gardener's best friend.  They can be lightly laid right on your crops, and help keep out pests like:  Cabbage looper, leafminer, flea beetle, grasshoppers, leaf hoppers, and many more.  They also help warm the soil, and keep light frost off sensitive veggies 
.


Plant Fruit Trees!  This weather is perfect for planting trees.  Make sure to prune your fruit trees down pretty low to create low hanging fruit branches.  It may feel really severe, but trust us, you will be grateful down the road!
