UPDATE:

The Riverview lands sit in limbo, more so than any time in history.  Its fate to be decided in an upcoming election on May 9, 2017.
The winter has been a long, cold one and the gardens and Arbouretum have sustained some damage from numerous snowfalls and unusually frigid temperatures.  As of the first week of April Riverview's spectacular trees and gardens are ready to bloom three weeks late.

BC Housing has notified our group that proceeding with tree tours and treefest will get more complicated and expensive.  Our group of dedicated volunteers will have to fulfill many of the same requirements as the multi-million dollar film industry if they want to have a presence on the lands.  This is having a significant impact on the current workload of the group as well as presenting them with fees the group cannot afford.

Metro Vancouver (and beyond) are currently in the grip of an unprecedented mental health and opioid addiction crisis.  De-institutionalization seems to have gone to far and everywhere you look there are people suffering.  Riverview has always been, and certainly now is, a wonderful opportunity to provide a "healing habitat" for a significant number of these people.
A new, local group of activists called "Coalition for a Healthy Riverview" have had a lot of traction with social and mainstream media getting some attention for Riverview.  That groups goal is to make Riverview an election issue.  They are non-partisan and want to see Riverview maintained as a public centre of mental health care and treatment and to keep the Arbouretum in its entirety.

The RHCS dearly misses Donna Crosby who recently passed away.  Donna was a key member of the group who carried a significant share of the work.  Donna was kind and thoughtful as well as highly organized.  Hers were very big shoes to fill and the group is currently seeking assistance from volunteers to help with the increasing tasks.
