Our Mission:We are a non-profit serving our neighbors aged 65 years and better, by organizing supportive services, respite for caregivers and the compassion of volunteers.
Jennifer Grilliot, Volunteer Coordinator
As I have the pleasure of meeting all our new volunteers, I am continually inspired by the generous and kind souls that say "yes" to helping seniors. Our long time volunteers are inspiring through their cheerful dedication (I'm looking at you Bill, Larry, Louis, Debbie and Katie). Thank you!
Whether you are a new or seasoned volunteer, finding ways to connect can be challenging or you and your senior partner may have fallen into a rut. Below are some ideas of activities to do together:
Organize a closet or drawer and find long lost treasures
Tend to houseplants or cut garden flowers to make a bouquet
Talk about travels or dream spots
Make a snack or have a glass of lemonade or hot chocolate. Staying hydrated can be a challenge for many seniors.
Tell jokes and funny stories
Talk about a favorite TV show or book
Look up favorite songs on your smartphone or computer to play for each other. There may be songs they haven't heard for years that you can find.
Look at photos
Have lunch together. Eating solo may be the norm for your senior. Having someone to share a meal can be a wonderful change of pace. You don't have to go out to eat for it to be enjoyable. Bring a lunch over with something to share.
Walk or drive around Como Lake. Many sitting benches are available to bird and people watch. Ask about how Como Park has changed over the years.
Tell me more about what you and you senior do together! I am transitioning to a new email: coordinator@comobnp.org
I will continue to use comovolunteerwellness@gmail.com for the next few months.
