Mid Coast Communities will be running the Youth Frontiers program with young people starting Week 2 of Term 2, and are looking for volunteer mentors to work one on one with young people. 

It is a wonderful way to give back to the community and have a positive impact on a young person's life.

Forum on the forthcoming Housing Transfers

Together with the Tenants Union NSW, Shelter NSW is holding forum on the forthcoming community housing transfers – you can register here.

1. Introduction and aims - Shelter NSW and Tenants Union NSW

2. Overview of the transition community housing – who will be impacted, how it will work, timetables, etc. (presentation followed by audience Q&A) - FACS

3. The tenant experience of transferring from public to community housing - Community housing tenants

4. Compact project overview– preliminary findings and principles to underpin effective community engagement - Shelter NSW

6. Consulting with tenants: experience of community housing providers - NSW Federation of Housing Associations

Calling Aboriginal Youth aged between 13 and 18 Years!

NADA is working in collaboration with Coffs Harbour City Council to create designs reflecting stories from the ‘Old Camp’, which is the site currently known as Fitzroy Oval.

Expressions of interest are being sought for Aboriginal youth to participate in two art workshops, mentored by experienced Aboriginal artists.

FRRR ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grants

In 2017, FRRR and our donor partners are again offering $100,000 in seed funding to assist not-for-profit community-based organisations in rural, regional and remote Australia adopt and act on one of the seven innovative Heywire project ideas. The communities selected to pilot the programs will implement their projects in the next 12 months from September 2017.

The seven ideas are:
  1. Need a Nanna Network (NANN) – keeping young people out of detention
  2. Dear CRIS – a pen-pal program to connect rural and international students and address racism
  3. Tech Hub in the Scrub – creating better access to technology in rural and remote Australia
  4. Ag Boom – getting more youth into agriculture
  5. One Drop – supporting people affected by substance abuse and creating resilient communities
  6. LGBTQ&A – empowering young LGBTQI+ people and creating equality
  7. Common Connections – encouraging mental wellbeing and building resilient communities
