Spring/Summer Cycling Update

Well, it looks like our programs have been well received. Our Saturday Spring Trail Blazers filled up fast. As a result, we decided to open up 20 more spots, so sign up fast! These spots will not last long. A second thing we have done, our Wednesday Pedalheads format will change a bit as well. Wednesday evenings, we will have programs for our more experienced cyclists from ages 9-12 and 14-16. These two groups will learn some more advanced riding techniques, venture out on some longer rides, and develop their skills quickly with our more accomplished coaches. It will be a great opportunity for your developing rider to really improve their skills.

Check out our website to find out more information on these programs and register. As mentioned, these programs are filling fast, so do not wait long.

The snow is now GONE. Trails are quickly opening up and more riders and runners are venturing out daily. Everyone is starting to think about Spring and Summer Programs for their kids. As a parent myself, I am checking into all the camp updates for the upcoming summer. Well, it is here, I am pleased to inform you that the registration for our Spring and Summer programs are now OPEN. Details for all our programs can be found on the website. We have put together a great coaching team for the season and look forward to meeting your kids and building their mountain biking skills. We encourage you to find out dates you are interested in and get registered quickly. The spots will fill fast. We have well trained, experienced coaches on site throughout the day to work with your kids and develop their skills further. It is a great team that will get your kids pumped to ride, likely bringing your whole family out to share in their experiences.

In the Spring, we have two 3-hr mountain bike specific programs running for our Trail Blazers (ages 6-13yrs) on Saturdays and new Pedal Heads for more experienced riders(ages 9-12, and 14-16yrs) on Wednesdays in May and June. Groups will be made based on ages, skill and ability (ex. ages 6-8yrs, 8-10yrs, 11-13yrs). This six week program will show your kids general bike maintenance, build their skills and improve their overall riding ability using all our trails including the nordic and single track routes.

The Summer programs will be held each week from Monday to Friday, 830am-430pm. These programs will focus the mornings on cycling and building their skills, similar to the Spring Programs, but also provide opportunities to experience other outdoor activities available at the club including hiking, orienteering, nature games, running and disc golf. We also have a wide variety of games and activities available for any indoor days. We hope to encourage many different skills throughout the week and will provide a safe, fun environment for your kids.

Please feel free to visit the website for more information and to register your child now. If you have any further questions about the program, please feel free to contact us at the office (250)564-3809, or email manager@caledonianordic.com. As mentioned, these programs are filling up very fast, so register soon!!

We continue to be in the toughest time of year for mountain bike trails. Some riders are itching to get out and ride after being cooped up all winter. Unfortunately, it is the worst thing we can do to our trail system. As the snow melts and the frost leaves the ground, trails are left soft, muddy and unridable. Trails are slowly opening up. PLease be respectful of the trails and the work that goes into them.

"Ride dirt trails, NOT mud trails."

While our trails drain and dry very quickly, it still takes time to allow them to dry.

Please respect the volunteer efforts made by the trail crew and avoid riding the wet, icy trails.
