Pop-up art gallery issues call for artists:
NeighborWorks, Foley, GMP partner on unique downtown store
Calling all area artists! We're seeking local artists to submit and display their art in a pop-up gallery in downtown Rutland.
The gallery, to be located downtown, is a collaboration between NeighborWorks of Western Vermont, MKF Properties and Green Mountain Power, with support from the Chaffee Center for the Arts and Green Screen Graphics. Selected artists’ work will be exhibited free of charge.
If you know any area artists (any age, any medium!) who may be interested, please encourage them to apply here. If you’d like to get involved, please email Maggie Lambert, one of our superstar AmeriCorps members who is organizing the project, at mlambert@nwwvt.org.

Congressional Drop-in at 39 Pine Street
Congressman Peter Welch, State Treasurer Beth Pearce, Department of Housing and Community Development Commissioner Katie Buckley, Deputy Commissioner Josh Hanford, Project VISION Executive Director Scott Tucker, and our Executive Director Ludy Biddle held a press conference and open house to celebrate the latest accomplishments of the Northwest Neighborhood Revitalization initiative, and the important role that the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program played in moving it forward.
The White House budget proposal for 2018 proposes elimination of the CDBG program, so Congressman Welch and others highlighted the success of this project, and the need for ongoing federal investment to support initiatives such as this one.
The event was held at 39 Pine Street, the almost-completed third home rehabilitation. The press conference was followed by an open house to give community members a chance to get a close look at this beautiful home.

Launch of TAG VISION
On April 18, over 70 residents came out to paint rocks and garden stakes at the 113 Library Ave Community Green Space (formerly a blighted, vacant building) and enjoy hot dogs. Kids played with hula hoops, frisbees, and a slackline provided by Rutland Recreation.
The TAG Spring Craft Party was the public launch of the TAG VISION Project, or “Together, Art Grows,” a youth-focused initiative that aims to build community and neighborhood pride through the creation and installment of public art.
We’re currently recruiting youth to get involved – if you know someone between the ages of 12-17, send us an email at skennelly@nwwvt.org with their contact information!

LaborWorks
LaborWorks started as an idea to save money. For years we had been wondering: could an in-house construction crew complete renovations less expensively?
In 2015, we had the opportunity to test that idea. Originally designed to be an in-house contracting crew to add to our one-stop-shop model for projects that weren’t easy to contract out, it has now become a full-blown contracting crew that supports technical learning.
LaborWorks creates steady jobs with health care that is not commonly found in the trades. Additionally, LaborWorks focuses on continuing education and the growth of our carpenters’ skill-sets. Due to our mission to strengthen the development of our regional economy, we hire based on drive and ability to learn, not on experience.
Our LaborWorks crew currently tackles our renovations in Northwest Rutland and aids our Home Repair Scattered Site and Healthy Homes programs as needed, from remediating bed bug infestations to building accessibility ramps.
