April was Alcohol Awareness Month

Alcohol remains the number one drug of choice among youth, and excessive drinking continues to lead to more than 4,300 adolescent deaths each year.

The good news is that overall, underage drinking has declined. The 2016 Monitoring the Future Survey found that 7% of 8th graders, 20% of 10th graders and 33% of 12th graders had consumed alcohol within the past 30 days – all down from past years.

No One's House is safe for teen drinking

Are you a parent in Indian River County? HELP US PREVENT TEEN DRINKING!

The No One’s House campaign gives parents an opportunity to not only share their view on teen drinking with other parents via campaign materials, but also provides parents an easy way to learn what other parents views are on teen alcohol use in their home.

Start the conversation early, as early as 9 years old. They are listening and they are watching. Do your children know your expectations of them and underage drinking? Have you discussed your wishes with the parents of your child’s friends?

Coming together at dinnertime EACH day not only keeps a family involved with each other, but also creates a network of communication and support. Dinnertime should be electronic free.
