Apply till 15 June, 2017

Till 15 June, 2017, ERIGrid welcomes applications for the 2nd call for free Transnational Access.

If you are looking for sophisticated smart grid infrastructure with top know-how and innovative installations for conducting your own experimental research, then ERIGrid offers an invaluable opportunity for you.

Users from research, academia and industry are invited to apply for free access to Europe's top smart grids research laboratories of ERIGrid partners.

The ERIGrid project provides validation, testing and simulation facilities free of charge for your experimental research, backed by concentrated know-how and best practices in the field of smart grid systems and distributed energy resources.

OFFIS in collaboration with OPAL-RT and FMTP POWER AB is holding a one-day seminar "Enhance Power System Protection, Control & Security with Real-Time Simulation" on 11 May, 2017, in Oldenburg (DE). This seminar is free to join for any professional working in the fields of the power system control, power electronics, and information and communication technology applied to energy systems.
This seminar aims to provide examples how real-time simulation can help you develop and test better protection and control systems.

You can find the preliminary agenda and the registration link here.
Having established a partnership, ERIGrid and ELECTRA IRP will have a joint booth at the CIRED exhibition on 12-15 June, 2017, in Glasgow (UK).

We invite you to visit us at booth H11, please see the floor plan of the CIRED Exhibition.

If you would like to arrange a meeting in advance, please get in touch with us.

Smart grids link various types of energy technologies such as power electronics, machines, grids, and markets via communication technology, which leads to trans-disciplinary, multi-domain system. Simulation packages for assessing system integration of components typically cover only one sub-domain, while terribly simplifying the others. Co-simulation overcomes this by coupling sub-domain models that are described and solved within their native environments, using specialised solvers and validated libraries.
Covering fundamentals and applications, the articles Applied co-simulation of intelligent power systems: implementation, usage, examples and “Co-simulation of intelligent power systems: Fundamentals, software architecture, numerics, and coupling” discuss the state of the art and conceptually describe the main challenges for simulating intelligent power systems.
As the focus of smart grid solutions is moving from a single system to a system of systems perspective, the increasing complexity results in growing engineering efforts and costs. For this reason, new and automated engineering methods are necessary. The paper Engineering Smart Grids: Applying Model-Driven Development from Use Case Design to Deploymentaddresses these needs with a rapid engineering methodology that covers the overall engineering process for smart grid applications—from use case design to deployment.

You can find these and other ERIGrid resources here.
Supported by ERIGrid, these papers present the work performed in the project on improving simulation-based evaluation and validation approaches.
On 5 October at 13:00 CET ERIGrid will hold an open consultation at the European Utility Week 2017, with the aim to obtain feedback on the performed activities from manufacturers and energy professionals.

The side-event will specifically look into two topics:
  1. Holistic system validation procedure: Presentation and interactive discussion of the developed holistic system integration and validation procedure in the ERIGrid project
  2. Co-simulation and integrated laboratory based assessment methods: Presentation and interactive discussion of project results on development and enhancement of simulation tools and methodologies
Stay tuned for details, agenda, and free registration for the side-event and the entire European Utility Week exhibition.
As ERIGrid launches the second call for transnational access to Europe’s leading smart grid infrastructure, Project Coordinator, Dr. Thomas Strasser, describes in an interview with Euroasia Industry ERIGrid’s progress to date, its dual focus on research and equipment sharing, and how external users can harness its impressive testing and simulation facilities across the continent.
