AfroRazones is a compilation album and multimedia project platforming and archiving new manifestations of Afro-Cuban identity through hip-hop, R&B and poetry. Created by a collaborative team of Cuban & US-based artists and organizers in the summer of 2016 out of DJ Jigüe's Guampara Music in Havana, Cuba - AfroRazones creates a space for modern Afro-Cuban expression from the island. AfroRazones empowers current Cuban manifestations of Black resistance in 2017.

The compilation album features productions by both seasoned and emerging Cuban producers including DJ Jigüe (who runs Havana's first independent record label, Guampara), DJ Lapiz or LPZ (producer for Cuban heavy hitters like Danay Suarez and Los Aldeanos), Prófugo (long-time producer for hip hop acts including El Tipo Este of Obsesión) and newcomers DJ Drew and Santiago de Cuba's Kamerum. Artists on the track were hand-selected by musical director DJ Jigüe with guidance from project creator Luna Olavarria Gallegos - who, with artists and organizing grants was able to support the recording process and a 3-day workshop series held in late March 2017.

AfroRazones was created with the intention of supporting Cuban artists and modeling Trans-Latin American solidarity in a digital age; recognizing the workshops and compilation album as part of a greater relationship - a new path of sustainable cultural exchange. Hosted by US-based music and media professionals, Luna Olavarria Gallegos, Laura Catana of Guampara, Nati Conrazon of conrazón and Edenized Perez, the workshops supported each of the Cuban artists by covering topics like the history of the music business, best practices using social media and even individual clinics with each artist to maximize their own platforms to promote not only the project, but future creations.

"We can get ourselves out there and connect with the rest of the world - it's not that we're not capable anymore, yes we're completely capable," said emcee Positivo after the workshops.
