FHPPS Newsletter Week 15,  8th May 2017
021 782 3309 | WEBSITE | EMAIL

Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

Please note we have a cell phone for the school as we are constantly having problems with TELKOM. If you do find that you cannot get hold of the office on the land line please try our cell: 079 408 2575.
This phone can be used mornings as well as afternoons.

We have a case of nits and lice in the school. Please check your children’s hair and treat it if necessary. The trick is to put conditioner onto your child’s hair and then comb out the nits with a fine tooth comb. Do this every 3 days until clear. No need for all these expensive harsh shampoos. The only way to get rid of the nits and lice is to comb the hair with a fine tooth comb. The nits cannot stick to the hair follicle with conditioner on it and they come off easily. The nits hatch every 3-4 days and that is why it is necessary to repeat the process every 3 days until clear.

MOTHER’S DAY AT FHPPS 8AM-12NOON.( SING SONG WITH THE CHILDREN AT 10AM)

Mommy, I love you
For all that you do.

On this Mother's Day.

NB #HEALTHY KIDS!!!!
A FHPPS Mom came up with  #HealthyKids concept that aims to educate and help children live healthier lives so that #Healthykids become healthy adults.    The idea is to create a positive mindset around health and to encourage children to become aware of and to make healthier choices; and to establish healthy routines and habits for life.  The outcome of this project is two beautifully designed A5 full magnetic fridge chart that encourages daily health habits.  Other educational benefits include:

  • Developing healthy routines and habits
  • Learning to set goals and work towards goals
  • Maths skills
  • Data management skills
  • Strategic development skills
  • Positive focus on healthy choices instead of restrictive diets
  • Tracking and rewarding progress

The product has just launched and is offered to FHPPS parents and kids.  The charts are A5 full magnetic fridge boards and is accompanied by a whiteboard marker to track daily progress.  These charts sell at R80 per chart with R10 of each sale being offered to FHPPS to be allocated to fundraising for any specific projects that FHPPS may have set for this year.

If you are interested to order a #healthykids chart for your child, please place your orders and make payment by no later than 15 May 2017.  Order forms will be available in your child’s notice pocket during this week.
PLEASE SEE AN EXAMPLE OF THE CHART ON THE SCHOOL NOTICE BOARD.

AFRICA A +

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

SCHOOL FEES

Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)
Please check your statements and let us know if you have any queries.

SPARE CLOTHES

Please remember to pack in a change of clothing for your children including underwear and socks. The weather is cooling down now and if the children get wet at the water play or in puddles when the rain comes they need to change.

CLASS REPS

Thanks for all your support. Our meeting will be this week, Tuesday 9th May at 6pm.

GATE SECURITY SYSTEM

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT THINK IT RUDE IF YOU CLOSE THE GATE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND YOU EVEN IF ANOTHER PARENT IS APPROACHING!!!!!!! YOU ARE BEING RESPONSIBLE AND CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN.

SOUP FOR A FRIEND EVERY WEDNESDAY

So wholesome and nutritious!
Some bread with the soup would be wonderful too.
We have a roster on the notice board. Please fill it in on a week that will suit you. We require 4 x 2 litre containers each Wednesday, so two people could provide on one day. If you do not have containers please fetch ours from the office a day or two before.
Vegetable soup is the best option for the children.

Sea Horse

GOOD DAY FHPPS FAMILY!!!
Lekker weekend, and it’s good to be back!!!
IQ THEME: Under The Sea
EQ THEME: Being a really good friend
Last week the seahorse class had a great time with Junior Jive and meeting their new classmate Zachariah Manuel,
All of the beautiful children in our class are perfectly settled and we are back into working mode, thank you to all parents who took the time to help their child with the number 2 worksheet I sent home.
We also have the trampoline back at school and the children are loving every minute they getting to spend jumping up and down on it.
Friday 12 May will be our Mother’s Day celebration, please make a great effort to accompany your children on Friday between 8 and about 12... as we are planning a few items for you and would not want to disappoint your little ones, if you cannot make it please send a grandmother, aunt etc to be there in your place.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!
I am still battling with a few parents who are still sending chips, chocolates, fizzy drinks or chocolate muffins and cake to school in their child’s snack box. Please I urge you, it is not allowed and it is especially not healthy for your child.
"TOYS " I can’t stress enough. Toys are not allowed to be brought to school unless it is ‘show and tell.’
As from Monday I will be removing toys and your child will only be allowed to get it back at the end of the week.

Sharks

EQ:  Being a good friend
General: Dinosaurs measurement - size, length and height
Maths: Ordinal number- first, second, third etc
Language: Letter W w water, walrus, wheel.
We will be celebrating Mother's Day this Friday 12 May.  The children have been very busy making pictures and cards for you and are very excited about this special day. We understand that most of you work and are unable to stay for the whole morning so I suggest you organise to spend some time at the school between 8-15am and 11-30am. We will explain to the children that moms will be visiting and staying for a short time but that they cannot stay for the whole morning, if you can that is wonderful.
We will have a raffle on this day and are requesting things to help us make up the raffle eg soap, chocolates, bubble bath, hand cream etc.
The children have enjoyed the theme - dinosaurs and were excited about going into the garden and using tape measures to measure the length of some of the dinosaurs. They were amazed at how big they were and how much space they needed in our garden. We classified them into various groups and compared their structure and teeth to the food they ate. T-Rex had teeth as long as a ruler and a jaw that was 1 m wide. They loved measuring and comparing their height to his jaw.
The children have found the language and correct terminology of ordinal number difficult. We do it daily when we discuss the date but they tend to say the one or two or three of May. Please try and reinforce this concept at home by using the words first, second, thirds, fourth etc whenever possible. A few children still struggle to identify numbers when they are not in order so I encourage you to make them aware of numbers in the environment, on packaging and on houses or cars registration numbers.
In EQ we will continue discussing characteristics of a good friend and how we can make friends in an amicable manner. I try and relate our stories to our EQ theme and also discuss feeling in most situations. I am pleased that most of the children are able to try and resolve conflicts independently but will seek assistance when necessary.
We have a student in our class at present so there are times when she will be teaching but I am present during the lessons.

Thank you to all the parents who are sending grey water to school. The Sharks are taking great pride in watering the veggie garden.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Fri 12 May-Mother's Day at school. All moms can visit between 8 am and 12ish.

FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day you're in diapers; the next day you're gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the long haul.
Regards, Paula
