Proclamation Request

We are again requesting that the week be proclaimed as Spiritual and Religious Care Awareness Week, in every institution in Canada. We sincerely thank all those who proclaimed in the past, including Canadian provinces (e.g., Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, British Columbia), municipalities, interfaith/multifaith agencies and institutions.

Topics discussed:
  • CMF Bylaws – The bylaws of CMF are in the process of being updated to reflect the change from a provincial to national organization. Several suggestions were received for consideration.
  • CHAPLAINCY / spiritual and religious care services (Multifaith Competency Screening) certification process, that which so far reflects the provincial needs, is to be developed to reflect national needs.
  • Since the end of funding from the province in 2013, there is a need to inform institutions in Ontario that CMF is still in business of spiritual and religious care.

In this service, CMF holds the contracts for positions to coordinate spiritual and religious care services in the long-term care facilities operated by the City of Toronto.

Multifaith Competency: How To Obtain a Certificate* Or Renew** :

The Canadian Multifaith Federation (CMF)  provides a service that ensures Spiritual and Religious Care Providers (Chaplains) have sufficient knowledge and experience to provide and coordinate spiritual care and religious services in a multifaith setting. A competency process has been developed to enable candidates to demonstrate their knowledge of multifaith issues and their ability in working with persons from diverse faith backgrounds.
