Alina made perfect

Sad news to report is that our valued, gifted and precious consultant, Alina Krajewska, passed away on the 3rd of May 2017 due to the return of her cancer. She will be sorely missed and we want to thank you all for your prayers for her over the past years since she was diagnosed with cancer.

The above photo is the last time I worked with Alina as part of her training to be a consultant. We were checking the book of Hebrews with two teams in June 2013. Thereafter she was able to work independently as a translation consultant. She has left a legacy of several books in God's Word which she helped check in several languages, as well as having been involved in training many of our current 350 translation students. She was also gifted in poetry and translated many poems and worship songs into Polish.

We want to honour her as a distinquished Bible translation consultant, and a true hero of the faith as we read in Hebrews chapter 11. We thank God for restoring her health for about a year, so she could continue her work. She truly had so much promise and ability in her career as a consultant but, as Hebrews 11.39-40 says: she "did not receive what God had promised, because God had decided on an even better plan". "His purpose was that" she "would be made perfect."

It was a privilege to work with her and to have known her for the past four years. Now she has entered her rest, and received her reward. 2 Tim 4.8 "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day."

Praise God with us for:

  • Alina's life and fruitful ministry in the four years she worked as a consultant with TWFTW. Thank God for all the books of the Bible she checked and also the many lives she touched through her testimony for Christ.
  • Successful consultant checking in Morogoro, Tanzania. Gudrun Rogler and Barry checked the Gospel of John in 5 languages, and then Barry mentored Gudrun to check Revelation, 1 Corinthians and James in 2 languages (Yao and Ngoni). Only the book of Matthew remains to be check in these two languages and then these New Testaments can be published.
  • The work in SE Asia continues to grow and a new translation project is being researched in Sri Lanka. Janet van As's dad has settled well in the UK.

Mentoring

Gudrun Rogler, a German lady with a PhD in linguistics, is well on her way to becoming a new consultant with TWFTW. She will be staying in Morogoro for 3 months from March to June to gain cross cultural work experience and is currently learning to speak Swahili.

She has observed consultant checking sessions of 4 books of the New Testament since November last year (Romans, Hebrews, Peter and John), and has recently been mentored by Dr Barry Funnell to check Revelation, 1 Corinthians and James in 2 languages of Tanzania (Yao and Ngoni). Barry is very pleased with her competency and how quickly she has picked up the skills of working with Bantu languages.

She will be helping with the exegetical checking of Matthew with 3 teams while she is in Tanzania, as well as tutoring several of our diploma students in various subjects of the training programme. She will also be tasked with the consultant checking of Matthew's Gospel in 5 languages in June, two of which are Yao and Ngoni. This is the last book these two languages need checked in order for these New Testaments to be sent for publishing.

Please pray with us for:

  • Pray for comfort for Alina's friends and family at this sad time. Her funeral will take place next week. Pray also that her work and testimony will bear much fruit for eternity's sake.
  • Pray for the checking of Matthew, the last remaining book to be checked in the Yao and Ngoni New Testaments. The Yao people group in Tanzania (575,000 population) is only 2% Christian and 93% Muslim. Please pray that both the Yao and Ngoni New Testaments will be finished soon and impact these people groups.
  • Barry is travelling to a central part in SE Asia from 7 to 20 May to mentor consultants in training as he checks the Gospel of Luke in 6 languages. Pray for safety and success in the training and checking process.

Please pray for the Basketo

  • There are 111,000 Basketo people in Ethiopia. A New Testament has been translated for them but they need the complete Bible. We are trusting God to raise funds to be able to support the translators who will be working on this project. Pray that God will raise up a team of supporters. Could you be part of that team through regular monthly giving? Please click here to donate.
