ICYMI – Local Municipal Water Districts Say California WaterFix “Imperative” for California’s Water Systems

Sacramento, Calif. – Recently, Susan B. Mulligan and David W. Pedersen, general managers of the Calleguas and Las Virgenes municipal water districts and Thomas P. Evans, president of the Western Municipal Water District Board of Directors, voiced their strong support for California WaterFix in pieces published by the Ventura County Star and the Riverside Press Enterprise. The pieces underscore the need for California WaterFix to reliably deliver water for local residents and businesses.

Governor Jerry Brown’s California WaterFix would secure water deliveries for two-thirds of California residents, including those served by Las Virgenes, Calleguas and Western municipal water districts.

Below are brief excerpts from the pieces:

The Ventura County Star:

“At the state level, there’s momentum for building the California WaterFix, (the Delta tunnels,) which will provide water for two-thirds of the state’s population while protecting the Delta’s threatened species. Our agencies and many others believe it is imperative that this project move forward. The tunnels will capture large quantities of stormwater that now flow out to the sea every winter.”

The Riverside Press Enterprise:

“WaterFix is the product of expert analyses dating to 2007. State and federal officials have weighed and collected input on thousands of ideas for boosting water system reliability while restoring fish and repairing a damaged delta ecosystem. The result is a balanced approach that protects nature, preserves quality of life, and helps ensure a dependable water supply in arid Southern California.

The new tunnels would move water naturally, through gravity: no more relying on antiquated, court-restricted delta pumps that kill endangered fish.”
