Exciting developments

So, where to begin?

As you can see opposite, the reviews to date have been spectacular, and have led to over 5,000 early book sales.

For those who wish to celebrate, Shaun will be hosting an evening at Housmans Radical Bookshop in Kings Cross, London, this Wednesday.

Alternatively, check out his interviews on the books, from the Peak Prosperity discussion above to others including Radio Ecoshock, Legalise Freedom, the Permaculture Podcast and Resonance FM.

There was also a FEASTA webinar this week.  And written pieces for OpenDemocracy, Kosmos, Permaculture magazine and Chelsea Green.

Meanwhile, other thinkers are beginning to riff off Fleming's work, from renowned philosopher Roger Scruton's thoughtful essay relating traditional conservatism to Fleming's environmentalism, to Patrick Noble dedicating his latest book to the inspiration he found in Lean Logic

Dan Jones, originator of Lean Thinking, has also been in touch to express his delight at the "mightily impressive tome".

Look out for David Fleming in The Guardian this week too, as we have inside information that Mark Boyle's latest piece draws on the books!

Several other irons remain in the fire, with potential for a Spanish translation for Surviving the Future, a four-day symposium on Fleming at Vermont's impressive Sterling College, and early discussions about a film(!), but that's enough excitement for one update...

Though go on then, just a final mention that one fan of Lean Logic has produced a speculative astrological starchart for David Fleming! :)
Community, Place and Play: A Post-Market Economics

This week-long residential course on David Fleming's work at Schumacher College was a great success, with thrilled feedback from those participating.

It also generated a £600 donation to the Cambrian Wildwood project, here being hand-delivered by course participant Samantha De Siena, along with a copy of Surviving the Future!

Reviews

Snippets from the most recent reviews:

"It's incredible ... I've never read anything like it ... Exceeded my expectations in just about every way possible ... One of Britain’s most visionary thinkers ... Unconventional and captivating reading, written with such charm and levity ... A tour de force ... One of the most enthralling books I've read in a very long time ... A genuinely original thinker ... I can't rate this book highly enough ... Possibly the best non-fiction book I’ve ever read"

The books were also named in 'best of 2016' lists by both GreenBiz and The Times Higher Education Supplement!

VIDEO (8 mins) - Jonathon Porritt and Shaun Chamberlin discuss Fleming's work at Oxford University, focusing on economic collapse and the rediscovery of culture grounded in place.

“Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness – and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we’re being brainwashed to believe.

The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they are selling – their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability.

Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them.

Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”

~  Arundhati Roy, War Talk

"I would unreservedly go so far as to say that David Fleming was one of the most original, brilliant, urgently-needed, underrated, and ahead-of-his-time thinkers of the last 50 years.  History will come to place him alongside Schumacher, Berry, Seymour, Cobbett, and those other brilliant souls who could not just imagine a more resilient world but who could paint a picture of it in such vivid colours.  Step into the world of David Fleming; you'll be so glad you did."

~ Rob Hopkins, co-founder of the Transition Towns movement

"David Fleming's eye was sharp, and his words had a way of getting right to the heart of the matter.  Lean Logic is remarkable and scintillating; the product of a truly original mind."

~ Paul Kingsnorth, co-founder, the Dark Mountain Project; author of The Wake, Beast and Confessions of a Recovering Environmentalist

And finally, for those (like me!) ever keen for more snippets of David speaking, we've turned up one more, from the ASPO (Association for the Study of Peak Oil) conference in Cork in 2017.
