Child Inclusive Practice Forum

18-20 October 2017, Adelaide

Hello colleague,

ChildrenBeyondDispute.com is proud to be a major sponsor of the 2017 Child Inclusive Practice Forum.

This national forum, themed "We’re all in this together", recognises the journey that parents, children and practitioners take through the process of resolving separation disputes. Reflecting this, international and local keynote and invited speakers will cover wide ranging topics to enrich the practice of Child and Family Therapists, Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners, Family Law and Childhood Specialists.

The conference will be held 18-20 October 2017 in Adelaide, Australia.
Keynote speakers and presenters include Professor Amy Holtzworth-Munroe (Indiana, USA), Professor Jennifer McIntosh, Megan Mitchell, Dr David List, and Virginia Leeuwenberg.

Conference Masterclass

Professor Jennifer McIntosh will also be holding a masterclass on Child Inclusive Mediation & Counselling. This half day program is designed for trained and experienced child consultants, to extend their skills into areas of clinical complexity, exploring alternate methods of enquiry with children, and new strategies for effective dialogue with parents.

Discounted Child Inclusive Mediation and Counselling Courses with Conference Registration

ChildrenBeyondDispute.com is providing all Conference registrants with a 20% discount on the 18-hour Child Inclusive Mediation & Counselling training program. Details will be provided to you with your registration materials. Registrations are now open.

Call for abstracts extended until July 1.

The Forum Committee invites abstracts from all professionals that promote consultation with children and centrally incorporate the experience of the child in their practice. Abstracts should embrace the 2017 theme "We're all in this together". For more details, visit the conference website

Feedback on CIMC Training from Dr Ann O'Kelly, Ireland

Dr Ann O'Kelly, a mediation practitioner in Ireland, has kindly written a review of the Child Inclusive Mediation and Counselling training program. Ann has completed both in-person training with Professor Jennifer McIntosh and online on the ChildrenBeyondDispute.com website. Her full testimonial can be read on the ChildrenBeyondDispute.com website here, and here is an excerpt:

"Jenn is to be congratulated for providing this ‘Child Inclusive Mediation and Counselling Online’ training program as it provides not only a sound, evidence-based theoretical basis for the work, it also provides the nearest one can come to ‘hands-on’ experiences of working directly with children and their parents during the difficult transition from intact to separated/divorced family. ... What shines through this program is Jenn’s ability to provide empathy for all involved, whilst retaining an emphasis on the needs of children and young people throughout every aspect of the training program."

If you have completed the CIMC training or YCIDS course through ChildrenBeyondDispute.com, your feedback is most welcome. Feel free to email us at cbd@familytransitions.com.au, or send us your testimonial via our contact form

If you are interested in Dr O'Kelly's PhD thesis titled "How do children and young people in Ireland experience the process of their parents’ separation and divorce and subsequent changed family life? Giving recognition to children’s experiences", you can access it here.

Q&A on YCIDS: Accessible in July

ChildrenBeyondDispute's second free online Q&A session with Professor Jennifer McIntosh was filmed live during a training program with Relationships Australia. This will be a bumper 3-part program, covering the YCIDS parent education program and applications within family law mediation. These sessions will be helpful for social science and family law practitioners at all levels, and will be freely accessible through the CBD shop, in July. To get access, simply go to July Q&A on the Shop page, and complete the checkout process.

Prof McIntosh's Visit to Scotland

Professor Jennifer McIntosh is visiting Scotland in June, where she will be providing two training workshops.

The 1-day Child Inclusive Masterclass workshop allows participants to focus on the skills of building highly effective conversations with parents, and on drafting parenting plans and orders that continue to help the parents re-focus away from their conflict and on their children’s needs, long after the face-to-face intervention is completed.

A half-day workshop titled "Young children in separation & divorce: Current evidence on outcomes, and early interventions for supporting the journey" will also be run by Professor McIntosh. This workshop will consist of two parts: Part 1. The developmental consequences of divorce and separation for children: Current evidence; and Part 2. The voice of the child: Evidence based approaches to enhancing family outcomes in family law disputes.
