Ellis family Guilderton Diggers cup winners
Sports News:                           Guilderton Diggers Cup Winners - The Ellis Family

GUILDERTON CUP WINNERS
Guilderton Digger's Cup was well attended this year in beautiful late autumn sunshine.  Mixed teams competed in Golf and Bowls with a hearty cooked breakfast and buffet lunch included for the competitors.  This year the local Ellis family of Linda, Clive, Jack & Luke, proudly won the cup.

AMAZING (Julie Jasper  0400 085 965)
I am promoting a motorbike ride around Australia on an old 1942 WW11 Indian Military Scout, which will not only raise funds, but will also raise awareness for children I work with who have been affected by ongoing trauma, the result of being exposed to family and domestic violence and abuse throughout their crucial developing years, which in effect will disadvantage them for the rest of their lives. This is my sponsored website  www.thesilenttour.com  if you would like further information and/or to offer support for my cause.

GRANT WINNERS - Beck Foulkes-Taylor and Gingin Tennis Club
The Shire would like to congratulate Beck Foulkes-Taylor for being a successful recipient of a Wheatbelt Athlete Support Program grant. This $800 subsidy will contribute toward the cost of Tennis WA’s Junior Development Course which will enable Beck to teach tennis to our region’s youth.
The Wheatbelt Athlete Support Program (WASP) is funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation and Royalties for Regions through the Regional Talent Development Program, and supports the development of regionally based talented athletes, coaches and officials. The aim of the program is to encourage the continued development and progression of talented individuals along their sporting pathways from the sub-elite to elite performance level whilst living in regional Western Australia. Beck said "the grant process was quick and simple to apply. Well done Beck!

Congratulations to the Gingin Tennis Club on their successful grant application for $500 worth of sporting equipment from the BALLS4ALL initiative. This is a partnership between Spartan Sports and the Australian Sports Federation to provide grants of balls for rugby league, rugby union and football, plus netballs, basketballs and cricket balls to sports groups and school teams all over Australia. Due to the dedication and commitment of Simone Gresele to Gingin tennis and the community, the Gingin Tennis Club has lots and lots of tennis balls. Great effort with a positive result. Thank you.

Fundraising - How to be more effective
The most efficient sporting teams have good leadership from their coaching staff and their captains to keep their team on track and sticking to the game plan. Their roles involve establishing a plan and providing the guidance and execution to deliver results utilising the resources at hand and distilling a culture of teamwork, accountability and engagement to succeed.
Fundraising like most initiatives uses the same model within an organisation whether it be a well-resourced professional sporting team or a volunteer based committee, strong leadership and fundraising champions are essential. KEEP READING

Social Media What is it and how can Clubs use it?
Clubs can use social media to communicate with their members and market their services as well as sell goods. The key to the success of social media is to get all club members joined or subscribed to the social media platform.  Tools like Facebook can:
•    Inform club members of upcoming events
•    Inform club members to fixture or training changes
•    Inform club members of news
•    Share photos and videos of team triumphs
•    Sell merchandise or tickets to events
•    Sell sponsorship space (naming rights to the club’s facebook page)
•    Sell merchandise

10 tips for your board to ensure financial health and regulatory responsibility.
1. Be wary of late reports - Agree on how often reports are provided from the treasurer and insist that they’re delivered on time. Late reports can be a sign of troubles (a failure of duties at its most benign; deliberate omission at the other end of the scale).
2. Watch the budget - Set a budget at the start of each year. The board should check in regularly (at least once a quarter) on how you’re tracking. Any large variations in income or expenditure should be investigated immediately.
3. Check the bank accounts - Request the tabling of a printout of the bank accounts (as they stand today) at each meeting. If the financial reports don’t match the statements, it’s time to ask some questions.

6 Tips - More Interesting Committee Meetings
1. Strong Chairperson - To help you keep things energised and on task.
2. Catering - Meetings after hours may warrant a platter or two of nibbles, while a morning meeting might see tea, coffee and biscuits set out. Over lunch, a tray of sandwiches might be fuel for meeting productivity! Oh, and chocolate, because… chocolate.

•    How and when are the AustAAS is likely to be introduced?
•    How clubs and associations can develop flexible frameworks to meet their organisations needs?

ARE YOU AT RISK?
Email fraud
What is it?
Cyber-criminals impersonate your CEO or other senior executives and target staff with the authority to perform transactions for your organisation.
What to look out for:
  •     A request marked urgent and/or confidential.
  •     Being asked to ignore standard payment authorisation processes.
  •     Emails containing grammatical and spelling errors.
  •     The ‘reply to’ email address is different from the sender’s address.
How to protect your organisation
  •     Look for and question anything suspicious.
  •     Have processes and procedures in place such as a clear separation of duties plus additional verification processes for large or unexpected payments.
  •     Make sure everyone follows set processes and procedures – without exception.
Requests to alter bank details
What is it?
Cyber-criminals pose as one of your genuine suppliers and send instructions to alter bank account details. The next time your organisation makes a payment to the supplier the funds are paid to the cyber-criminal’s account. This type of scam is often only detected when the genuine supplier lets you know they haven’t received payment.
What to look out for:
Any requests, whether by email or invoice, to change bank account details. These requests often look authentic and may use the business’s logo and links to their website (or a fake webpage).

How to protect your organisation
  • Always verify any requests to change bank details using an alternative communication channel and always use the contact details listed in your internal records.

Sponsorship - What is it good for?......
Sponsorship is a mutually beneficial business relationship between two parties, the business (sponsor) and the club (sponsored).
In terms of sporting clubs, having sponsors can significantly help clubs to reach their goals and objectives. The financial support of sponsors is often used to reduce the costs for players, of uniforms and competitions while also supporting the general running of the club.
Sponsorship may be in the form of cash, donated goods and services or access to the resources or staff of the sponsor.  These goods and services can become more valuable than simply cash sponsorship through fundraising events or specialised services.
