And it continues...

We have made it through another school year! We are looking forward to continuing our ministry this summer. Continue reading to check out some of the cool opportunities our students have experienced. Don't forget to visit our LSU Wesley Alumni group or our LSU Wesley Foundation pages to stay connected. Be sure to scroll down and check out our "Alumni Spotlight" section and a great opportunity to see some of your old Wesley Friends!
Wesley needs your help! Have you ever thought about donating to something but had doubts as to if what you gave would make a difference? Wesley has received an offer from a donor to match donations for each month for the next year up to $600 each month. So if you can give $10 each month then Wesley will actually receive $20.

You can dontate through paypal on our website or use this link https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business

The spring retreat this year was fully focused on rejuvenation of the mind and body at Panama City Beach. At this retreat, students got to relax on the beach, complete a massive human maze, and worship together at the wonderful Gulfview church in Florida. Each night everyone ate together and then had devotionals focused on water. After such a rough start to the '16 school year this relaxation was much needed for everyone.
This years Alumni & Friends Crawfish boil went great! We had a nice crowd filled with many different years of alumni from the TUCM days all the way to some from the '16 class. We had our first silent auction, started a hand print board for all alumni to make their mark and had live music. We hope to bring in more alumni each year for this wonderful day of fellowship!
A student leader Sarah Wright, organized a jambalaya fundraiser this spring for students to raise money for mission trips and conferences. With help from Stew Craig from University UMC, we had a ton of jambalaya to sell! We presold with tickets, set up at Wesley and were able to sell at University UMC and St. Johns UMC as well. We raised over $1500 that would go towards students mission accounts!
Laura Woodland St.Amand is a TUCM alum from the 1980s. Her roots stem from her mother and father who both attended around 1950 as well as her brother and sister. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Lit in 1984 and worked in the office at TUCM and returned to grad school in 1988 graduating with a MSW in 1990. She met her husband, Mark St.Amand at TUCM, and her daughter Bernadette and niece and nephew have been active in The Wesley since their freshman years.
She experienced two wise and wonderful campus ministers while she attended TUCM: Rush Otey and Randy Nichols. Both are men of faith who supported and nurtured her spiritual growth.
She currently works as a social worker for the Department of Children and Family Services where she has enjoyed (while not all joyful) 27 years working with children and families in our community who have needs, experiences and life stories she could never have imagined. It continues to be a privilege and most humbling journey of learning and faith.
In her years at TUCM, she experienced friendships with people from different backgrounds and faiths, able to be a part of conversations, debates, and discussions about faith, religion, social justice and even politics; all in a very supportive and caring community. Her favorite part was the annual spring workday/crawfish boil, they were EPIC!

How can you be involved? There are a few different ways! You know we're always providing a meal for our students. You can sign up on the "Take Them A Meal" website. Here you (and your friends, your Sunday school class, bible study group, etc.) can choose a Wednesday night to bring a meal. to our students. The last name is "wesley foundation" and the password is 2907. Another way you can help is by considering to contribute financially. Your donations provide ministry opportunities for our students through food, scholarships for trips, and supplies for Wesley events. Lastly, we always appreciate your prayers. Remember to lift us up as you are with your small groups, between errands, before bed, or breaking bread with great friends.

A note from the director:

Two students in the Candidacy process. New partnerships with Southern Wesley. Our first on-campus Chapel in the Greek Amphitheatre. And a wonderful dinner and Chapel message given by none other than Bishop Cynthia Fiero Harvey (who returned during Finals to bring us a week of snacks.) It has been a fabulous semester at LSU Wesley on every level.

My blurb during this part of the year is always bittersweet. We’re still reveling in the renewal of the Spring Retreat, the fellowship of the Alumni & Friends Crawfish Boil, and the excitement of some new Finals Week activities (a movie night, puppies, pancakes) that were really well received.

Yet we also celebrated 17 seniors at Senior Chapel, and we’re preparing to pass the torch to a group of new, younger, passionate students. This is the story of Wesley: older students investing in younger, changing lives and teaching others how to do the same. Please pray for us—and for our new leaders—as we go into a summer of preparation and mission, followed by a new year with infinite possibilities.

And, if you want to hear more stories, give me a call, or come and see how you can get more involved in this life-changing work at LSU Wesley!
