2017 Teachers of the Year
Recently, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced that its National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) distinction was awarded to Massachusetts' Sydney Chaffee, a humanities teacher at Codman Academy, a public charter school in Boston. In addition to her full-time teaching responsibilities, Ms. Chaffee is a part-time instructor at Boston University's School of Education and is a TeachPlus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow. CBS This Morning and The Boston Globe highlighted the award and Ms. Chaffee, who was quoted as saying, "I want my students to understand that they are powerful and that they can make change in the world."
CCSSO's NTOY announcement motivated us to reshare exciting news from our Network Partner, the Center for Inspired Teaching. In March 2017, two "Inspired Teachers" were honored at the Standing Ovation for DC Public Schools event, hosted by the DC Public Education Fund at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Jan Schuettpelz was DC Public Schools' Teacher of the Year and has been an Inspired Teacher Leader since 2015. Milton Bryant is a 2011 graduate of the Inspired Teacher Certification Program and received the Rubenstein Award for Highly Effective Teaching. Congrats to the Center for Inspired Teaching for their rigorous preparation of high quality teachers.
