the season of externalizing our growth.

it isn't that we've been stagnant, we've been digesting, distilling, and recombinating ourselves since autumn.

I often find that spring is a manic season of do-everything-at-once, dawn-till-dusk work and play. this season's pace often leaves me overtrained and under-rested.

this past month I cranked away on my book proposal, coached new-to-me athletes, redpointed (again) my hardest project from two years ago, began my group coaching engagement with AMI, delivered a talk on pregnant athleticism, and got started on a couple top-secret (for now) projects. after a month of all that I crawled into an introvert hole last week and am just now digging out.

as you, too, undertake personal and athletic leafing out for the season I encourage you to take time for the yin half of your practice: intentional rest. and remember that balance is not always 50/50 - it is at times all of this then all of that. I hope you enjoy this long-overdue catch up on Magnetic North's many areas of growth.

Adrenal fatigue

Two approaches, both important.

After supporting mountain guides, recovering triathletes, alpinists, and ultra runners during periods of adrenal fatigue, I put together some words on how and why I enjoy those engagements so much. Over there you'll learn what adrenal fatigue is and how we'll approach it in our coaching engagement.

My partnership with AMI is ramping up now that they've announced their first expedition! I've signed on as their team coach and couldn't be more excited to teach other moms how to treat themselves like athletes.

"What kinds of athletes do you work with?"

Whatever you define as mountain endurance - five miles or fifty - is where I meet you.

Over the last five years I've worked with gaggles of athletes spanning military, hunting, skiing, running, climbing, and guiding. My clients rely on me to keep them accountable in pursuit of a goal and to temper their enthusiasm in order to rest up for a big event. We cover nutrition, mindfulness, periodized training theory, and always include a healthy bit on the physiology of endurance.

Rest Up

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
- David Wagoner, "Collected Poems 1956-1976"
