Congratulations to the ReStart
April Student of the Month!

Jia has been a great addition to KEC. She is always polite to staff and her fellow students. She is a very diligent student, working hard to do her best.  She has an easy smile for anyone she interacts with and is a great class participant. She is engaged in every lesson and has had a great start at KEC.

Take 5
Take 5 with…Mrs. Boltz

Mrs. Boltz is finishing her third year as the counselor at KEC. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun! Mrs. Boltz works on a daily basis to help provide a safe and comfortable learning environment in which students can soar. She connects with the students and staff at KEC as well as with many of the stakeholders in the home schools and other community resources to help KEC provide our students with what they need to succeed.  But there’s more to Mrs. Boltz than meets the eye:
  • Mrs. Boltz was in a sorority in college. She stays in
touch with some of her roommates from those days
but certainly not all of them…there were way too
many to keep connected with everyone.

  • If Mrs. Boltz had to eat the exact same meal 3 times a day for a month, she knows exactly what it would be: spaghetti with meatballs, garlic bread, and a side salad!

  • Her greatest professional achievement has been getting her LCSW; it’s the highest she can go in the profession without getting her PhD. On a daily basis, her greatest achievement always involves getting people to be willing to trust again.

  • Mrs. Boltz’s absolute favorite day of the year is Thanksgiving. She loves the holiday because it has the best food, you get to spend it with your family, and it is a great time for reflection. She loves the holiday so much, in fact, that she had the food from a traditional
Thanksgiving meal served at her wedding!

  • The last roller coaster Mrs. Boltz rode was the Iron Wolf
at Six Flags Great America…in the 8th grade!
    (FYI…she hates roller coasters)!
Take 5 with…Mr. Escamilla

Mr. Escamilla has worked at KEC for the past four years, helping students in lots of different ways. As the Truancy Outreach Coordinator, Mr. Escamilla’s number one priority is making sure KEC students are here on time, every day, so that they can continue to grow and reach their full potential. Mr. Escamilla, or Mr. E as many people call him, wears many hats to make this happen. Keep reading to find out what else Mr. E is up to:
  • Mr. E plans to enjoy the summer. There are 3 things he will definitely be doing to bring on the fun:
    swimming, gardening, and barbecuing.

  • His greatest personal accomplishment has been providing for his family, which has allowed his wife to be able to
enjoy her time being a stay-at-home mom.

  • Mr. E liked to watch cartoons when he was a kid. Some of his favorites were Ninja Turtles, Animaniacs, and Looney Tunes. Now he enjoys watching cartoons with his own kids: Pokémon, Transformers, and Curious George
    are in the current rotation.

  • When Mr. E was in college, he went one whole week without his cell phone because he couldn’t pay the phone bill. He didn’t miss having the phone at all; actually,
he says it was an excellent week.

  • Mr. E has 2 sons who would describe their dad with
these 5 words: funny, goofy, silly, ridiculous, and butthead.
    Why am I not surprised?
