The group are tending to plants in the community garden at Birtley House and are working on plans to start cooking, starting with homemade rhubarb and custard.  In the future we hope the young people will obtain their food hygiene training alongside making homemade jams and chutneys to be sold at local community events and farmers markets.

Disability Works: Philips Work Experience Day
halow project and Philips UK have teamed up for the first time to offer halow young people a work experience day at their Centre in Guildford. This placement will give the successful young people selected to take part a really good understanding of what it is like to work in an office, what employers expect and what it takes to be a good employee.

Young people who take part in this work experience day will have lots to show any potential employers when they apply for a paid job in the future and will be a very good addition to their CVs.

There are 15 places  available and the opportunity is first come first served.

To book your place or to find out more information, to find out more information, please email Aisha Ariakutti,  A Reason to Get Up Co-ordinator.

Please note that young people applying will need to be available on Friday 23rd June 2017 between 11am-3pm to take part.

My halow story:
Siona Booth, Building Futures Project Worker

I was thrilled to become a part of the halow team in February 2017.  My previous experience working with young people and adults in a life-skills project environment plus my work as a personal trainer and yoga teacher very much compliments my new role working on the Building Futures programme.

The true resilience, team work, support, flexibility and compassion I see on a daily basis with the young people is truly awe inspiring .  I look forward to sharing all the future achievements of the young people and watching them all continue to blossom and reach their full potential.

Thank you Barrow Hills School

Thank you to pupils from Barrow Hills School for fundraising for the halow project as part of their Lent Appeal. As one of the chosen charities, the pupils raised a fantastic £1,958 for halow.  Every age group in the School was involved in raising money for the Appeal, from Nursery to Year 8.
We are hiring!
Female Supported Living Buddies

We are urgently looking for Female Supported Living halow Buddies to provide personalised support to young people with a learning disability, within their own home.

We are looking for people who are willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and sleep-ins on a rolling shift pattern, however full training is provided for this. Although training will be given you must share our passion that these young people have the right to the same life choices and chances as any other young person.
