2017 STooPS Artists

Brooklyn, NY - STooPS is excited to announce the 2017 lineup of outstanding and innovative artists selected to participate in the 5th annual STooPS Art Crawl.
This year's applications featured a wide array of submissions, including visual artists, singers, puppeteers, musicians, choreographers, and more — all committed to storytelling by, for and with Bed-Stuy's communal legacy in mind. After much deliberation, we are proud to announce our lineup of nearly 20 artists, including Clarivel Ruiz`, Fulton Art Fair Inc., Babay L. Angles, Najee Omar and students from The Brooklyn Music School's Summer Vocal Arts Program. We are also thrilled to have artists like Aleijuan Afuraka, the Fulton Arts Foundation, and Lisa Sikorski returning this year.
To celebrate our fifth year, the annual STooPS event will span two days:
Saturday, August 5th from 1-6pm &
Sunday, August 6th from 2:30pm-7:30pm

STooPS was created by and for artists and we're excited to share the work of our creative team. After each day’s performances, STooPS organizers will also take the stage. Don't miss poetry from Timothy Prolific Veit Jones, choreography by Kendra J. Ross, music by Ish Islam, and a few other surprises.
STooPS Artists offer more than entertainment, they are stakeholders in an ever-growing network of creatives and community members. We would not be able to produce five years of community events without your support, and we look forward to fostering this relationship for years to come.

About STooPS
Bed-Stuy grown and artist-instigated, STooPS incubates art at home by sharing resources and re-imagining spaces for public engagement. Since 2013, our annual STooPS Art Crawl has paired homeowners with artists to host performances and art showcases on their stoops, storefronts, yards or sidewalks. To encourage family-wide participation, we also produce a Kiddie Korner featuring various children's art activities.
Hosting nearly 1000 attendees, STooPS has been an undeniable success, helping to promote social interaction with more than 200 artists, residents, and business owners in Bed-Stuy. STooPS activities have also captured the attention of a wide-reaching audience, garnering features in such media as DNAInfo, the BK Reader, Brokelyn, A.R.T.S.Y. Magazine, and News12 Brooklyn.
The STooPS team is ecstatic about engaging the Bed-Stuy community for yet another year. It is just one way to engage, support, and develop Bed-Stuy, and as we expand, the entire Brooklyn community grows stronger.
