I have just tested my well at the barn and it is very high in iron....too high. I have a different well at the house, only a couple hundred feet away, that is fairly high in iron but only about half of the barn well. When I had the house well drilled about 10 years ago I tested it and assumed the barn well, which is also artisian, would be the same. My horses have been drinking that water for 20 years.
That well water, coupled with high iron levels in our North American pasture lands and forage, could result in iron overload. My horses are showing no ill effects but they have also been on BioEquine for their whole lives which has a natural toxin binder in it that is probably helping. High iron levels is thought to block the absorption of other minerals, such as copper and zinc, so this situation could have far reaching effects.
