Picking-up Factor at CBS - Golf Committee Needs Help! - Guys Camping Trip - Family Camp - PEP October 13-15th - CHS Rendez-vous

Planning When Picking Up Factor at CBS

As of April 1st 2017, the Canadian Blood Services stopped providing an insulated transport box for Factor pick-ups. When collecting your Factor products, they will be given to you in a large plastic bag. It is very important that you plan very carefully when going get your product as it is very sensitive to temperature. You want the product to be working at full capacity when you infuse it.
Taking a cooler with you in summer or winter is a very good idea. You don’t need a fancy cooler. A Styrofoam cooler is very inexpensive. Cooler or not, it is never a good idea to have your product in the car for very long. In the summer, when you have a freezer pack in the cooler, make sure there is some cardboard between the cooler pack and the product. You don’t want anything to get too cold. Keeping the Factor in the plastic bag will keep it safe from condensation in the cooler.

CHS-MC Golf Tournament Needs Help!

The Chapter Golf Committee is reaching out to the membership to ask for your help with the Annual Golf Tournament scheduled for September 5th that supports Chapter programs and services! The committee needs members to help with attracting golfers and collecting prizes for the tournament. If you are willing to join the committee and can come to 2-3 meetings, contact us at info@hemophiliamb.ca.  Volunteer job descriptions for the committee can be found at https://goo.gl/1TQsmM.
If you don’t have time for committee work, it would be hugely helpful if you can pass on the tournament information, as it comes out, to your family and friends. Donations of golfer prizes between $25 and $40 are needed. Help us make this a fun and profitable event for the Chapter!

Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) Oct.13th – 15th

The Hemophilia Saskatchewan PEP workshop was held the weekend of April 28th. Christine would like to thank the Sask families for inviting her to help facilitate the workshop. We are excited to invite Sask mom, Brittany Lee-Acton. to come to Winnipeg to help with our workshop!
The travel proved to be too complicated for our Manitoba families to go to the Sask workshop so we have planned a PEP workshop weekend of October 13th, in Winnipeg. Families that were interested in participating can contact the Chapter office at info@hemophilamb.ca or contact Manitoba Bleeding Disorder Program Social Worker Patty Phrakonkham-Ali at 204.794.8133. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can determine if we need to plan to provide child care for the workshop weekend.

Manitobans Sponsored to Attend CHS Rendez-Vous

The Manitoba Chapter thanks CHS National for sponsoring members to attend the CHS Rendez-vous conference and Annual General Meeting. The Medical and Scientific Symposium is always a great learning opportunity and the community workshops build capacity within the Chapters. Chapter President John Schmitke will also be attending the CHS Board meeting. Milena Pirnat and Borys Pavlovskyy will be attending the Advocacy workshop. Members sponsored under the Youth program are Kyla Meilleur and Eric Keilback.
