So Just What Does D String Fix?

We Fix Quite a Lot of Things!

Folks have been asking what I do and don't fix. There have also been questions as to whether I'm a "Luthier" or not. Strictly speaking, a luthier is someone who builds stringed instruments. Although I have built a few instruments for fun, this is not the focus of D String Guitar Repair.

Yes, I perform "luthier" tasks, such as making replacement bridges, fixing wood cracks, refretting, neck-resetting, nuts and saddles and such. I use a lot of glue and clamps (as you may have seen on earlier Newsletters). The difference is those tasks are in the process of repair, and not creation of an instrument. This is why I call myself a "Guitar Repairman".

That said, the term "Guitar Repair" doesn't really cover the scope of what happens here. I work on many other instruments; banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, basses, in addition to full service on acoustic and electric guitars. I am comfortable with all types of electric guitar fixes including rewiring, upgrading or changing pickups, even customization such as coil-tapping, pot and switch upgrades, treble-bleed circuits, fancy switching. I play many instruments and have the experience and playing skills to evaluate, and optimize banjos, mandolins and guitars of all types. About the only thing I don't do is refinishing work as I don't have a spray booth or equipment for that.

From the most fragile, elderly instruments to the new guitar just needing a quick "tweak" to bring out it's potential, here at D String Guitar Repair I can provide the services you need.

Guitar electronics are a specialty, whether you want to try some new pickups or
