Youngest grandson, focussing. It's been way too long. And I have no excuse. My radio silence is due to delaying... and then delaying some more. Oh, and getting caught up in grandchildren visiting. And depression nibbling around the edges of most days. Crazy to admit that in the summer, right?! But I'm telling you because I've sworn to be more transparent and talk openly about depression.

But honestly, my real excuse is this: the longer the gap, the harder it is to figure out what to say that will be entertaining and useful.

Have you experienced that?

It's as if the pressure builds up to be even more fascinating. And then it becomes almost impossible to write something, anything. And yet we all know that most e-newsletters are transitory. Worthy of a few seconds of skimming and then dumped into the trash. Or not opened.

So my advice to you is just. do. it. Whatever *it* is. Don't sweat it. Don't overthink it. Do not be like me. Do not ruminate. Do not worry that readers or customers will laugh at you, or dismiss you. Do not spend time fearing unknown outcomes. If you're stuck, just do something. It will probably be good enough.

And if you need more courage, check out a fascinating exercise suggested by Tim Ferriss: fear-setting. He explains the exercise here. Instead of goal setting, he lists out all his fears, in detail, in order to crack self-paralysis and take action. Fear-setting is also the topic of Tim's new TED talk, "Why you should define your fears instead of your goals" - over 2 million views already.

(In his TED talk, Tim Ferriss admits to struggling with depression since college. His fear-setting exercise is one of the ways he copes with recurrent episodes.)

Consider this a wave from the coast of Maine. I really have missed you. I'll be back soon with useful tidbits on writing, writer's block, productivity, book coaching, examining the first phase of old age, redefining life and so on.

But wait! Before you go, hit Reply and tell me ONE nugget about your summer. It can be related to writing... or just life. I'd love to hear. And I promise to respond.

Yours in possibilities,

Debbie

P.S. If you're a new reader...
