Workshop convenes clean energy experts

Stanford's Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance, a joint initiative of Stanford's law and business schools, held a workshop at SCPKU on May 8 in which it gathered approximately 20 China-based experts to scope out a new research initiative on a topic crucial to achieving meaningful global carbon reductions: more-efficient structures of clean-energy financing in China.

The workshop followed the center's release in March of The New Solar System, a major report about how a more-nuanced relationship between the United States and China could help make solar energy big enough to make a global environmental difference.  The study was the subject of a New York Times op-ed (published in English and in Chinese) by Jeffrey Ball, the study's lead author and the Stanford center's scholar-in-residence, and Dan Reicher, a co-author and the center's executive director.  Ball and Reicher led the May workshop, whose participants - all of them based in China - included executives of major banks, major electricity generators, and solar manufacturers; government officials; foundation officials; and academics.
