COMMUNITY NEWS: SAN MATEO
San Francisco's First District Court of Appeal has required the College of San Mateo to pause plans to turn a 54-year-old garden on campus into a parking lot. After students and staff complained of a proposal to pave over the small garden, the college must now submit a full environmental impact report, including soliciting public comment and presenting plans to limit the project’s effects, or it must provide a list of steps it would take to reduce the environmental effects of demolishing the garden.
A former St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School teacher was arrested and accused of taking and possessing photos of children in lewd poses. 33-year-old Anthony Satriano was investigated after he made inappropriate remarks to a student at the San Mateo elementary school and asked her to wear a pair of tights, according to authorities. Investigators then discovered photos on the teacher's phone which he claimed to use for "sexual purposes." Satriano was arrested at his home in San Francisco and is currently being held on $2 million bail. He is no longer employed by St. Matthew's.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office presented advice and tips on how best to handle an encounter with one of the county's many wild coyotes. Coyotes are most visible and active during their breeding season, which runs from spring through fall. Authorities advise those who see a coyote to stand still and tall, wave their arms in the air, and make loud noises.
