Safeguarding Training for 2017 / 18

May 2017

The NSCB's calendar of face to face training for 2017 /18 is now available for you to book your places.

All NSCB training opportunities both face to face and E-learning are available free of charge to all practitioners, staff and volunteers working with children in Northamptonshire.
This year, the NSCB will be using the same system to administer the bookings for both face to face training courses and E-learning, so for those who have taken an E-learning course in the last 3 years this process will be very familiar already.

You will find details of both face to face and E-learning offers for 2017 / 18 below together with helpful tips and guides to access the system and instructions on how to book courses.

Face to Face Training

The full NSCB training calendar for 2017 / 18 can be found on the link below.

2017 / 2018 NSCB Training Calendar

Before you book yourself onto one of the NSCB training courses it is important that you read the cancellation and charging policy as failing to attend a face to face course without a minimum of 72 hours notice will result in your organisation being charged and your manager informed of your non-attendance. During the booking process you will be asked to enter a number that will be used as a purchase order number should you not attend an event you have booked onto.

To book a place on a face to face training course you will need to have an account. If you have taken an E-learning course in the last 3 years you will already be registered on the system and can log straight in. If you do not have an account you will need to register.*

The NSCB have produced a number of guides to make accessing the system and registering for a course as easy as possible. Please take the time to read and use the guides below. More information about our face to face training and the links to the booking system can be found on the face to face training page of the NSCB website.

Visit the NSCB Face to Face Training Webpage There may be additional courses added to the calendar throughout the year and if so, these will be communicated via the NSCB website and newsletter.

We look forward to welcoming you on a course during 2017 / 18.

*Please do not register for a second account as you will not be able to see the previous learning you have completed. If you are unsure if you have an account please contact the Business Office who will be happy to check for you.

E-Learning

In addition to the face to face courses available, the NSCB has 42 E-learning courses available through the Virtual College. These online courses range from basic 'Introduction to Safeguarding' and refresher courses to specific subject areas including CSE, FGM, Domestic Abuse and many more. The courses are a great way to increase your knowledge on a range of subjects and a certificate is available upon completion that, counts towards your CPD. Note that courses should only take a couple of hours to complete.

Managers Guide: Getting Learning Into Practice

Managers play a vital role in identifying the training needs of the practitioners they line manage. It is equally important that managers are able to support the practitioner in implementing what they have learned on training courses, and that the learning is quickly embedded into daily practice. To help managers with this, the NSCB has produced a guide to getting learning into practice.

Impact of Learning

If we are to evidence the effectiveness of the training offer, the NSCB needs to evidence the positive impact the training and events provided on the day-to-day practice of staff in Northamptonshire. Therefore, we ask that you complete the training questionnaires and impact evaluations. Failure to evaluate the effectiveness of training may result in the offer being reduced in the future.

Why bother completing questionnaires about training?
The feedback we get from you provides evidence of the impact training has on day-to-day practice in Northamptonshire. It also helps to improve the training and events being provided and ensures we can still offer these opportunities free to the workforce in the future.

Taken an E-learning course or attended a face to face event 3 months ago?
3 months after completing an E-learning course or attending a face to face event you will be sent a request to complete an impact evaluation of the course. If you receive one of these e-mails, please take the time to log back in and complete the questionnaire which should only take around 5 minutes to complete.

Find out more about measuring the impact of learning or you can read the reports on the impact evaluations that have already taken place by visiting the Learning & Impact Summaries page of the NSCB website
