Bringing Water To Our Neighbors

"If any person helps one of these little ones because they are my followers, then that person will truly get his reward. That person will get his reward even if he only gave my follower a cup of cold water." —Matthew 10:42
“Little things, small things, insignificant things are used by Jesus to make huge differences. A cup of cold water is such a wonderful thing when you are thirsty, away from home, and need some time to think and reflect. A gift of a cup of cold water is so powerful if it is offered in Jesus' name, is shared to honor him, and is given to bless others out of thanks for his grace. In such circumstances, a cup of cold water is much more than a drink; it becomes a holy gift given to the Lord himself.” Resource http://www.heartlight.org/wjd/matthew/0513-wjd.html

St. Mark’s is working with Christian Community Service Agency to bring hydration to those who wait in line for their commodities on the fourth Thursday of each month.  St. Mark’s provides the water bottles and wagon to transport the water; water bearers will distribute them from 8:30 – 10 AM. Please sign-up in the church office.

Next Week

“Living the Questions”

is a video-based discussion series that moves beyond a dogmatic, eiLIVING THE QUESTIONSther-or faith and encourages a more-authentic and more-dynamic approach to spiritual life.   It continues on Mondays from 1 to 2:15 p.m. on May 15 and 22.  Come for a refreshing and eye-opening experience, and bring your questions, curiosity and doubts! The study meets in the New Room, near the church office.  All are invited--come to one, or come to all.

News

One Room Sunday School Sign-ups

Summer is nearing and that mean that St. Mark’s will be asking for volunteers to teach One Room Sunday school beginning on June 4th.  There are twelve opportunities to share your knowledge with our youngest church members. Stop by our table in the courtyard after church any Sunday in May to sign up and, pick up the lesson plan. It’s easy to use the lesson plan format with singing (music and words provided), stories to read, and crafts and activities to use. The Education team can assist in answering any questions or give insight into their own experiences.  This is a great chance to see what your child is learning in Sunday school and perhaps become a regular teacher in the Fall.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

Are you interesting in engaging in friendly and lively study of the Bible?  You are always invited to drop in on Wednesday Night Bible Study, which meets weekly from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the New Room near the church office.

Chair Yoga

Stretching our muscles while deep breathing is something everyone knows is important but sometimes we don’t know how to get started.  Chair Yoga is a great place to begin.  No headstands or pretzel bending, just moving body and breath. You are invited to chair yoga at 8 a.m. in the Social Hall.

Let Us Know!

Picture-taking and video recording are frequently done during church events.  Some of those pictures may be published in our church publications, slideshows, on our website, or on our social media pages. If you do not wish to have your picture published, please let an usher know, or contact the church office 858-273-1480 or via email.

A Fond Farewell

For the past school year, Tessa Adkins shared her musical gifts with our youth group. The students especially enjoyed going into the sanctuary at night to sing together around the piano. Tessa taught our youth both traditional hymns and contemporary praise music. Tessa is moving on to law school: She received a full scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis. Please pray for her safe travels. She is taking a month-long road trip to her new home. Thank you Tessa for your friendship and service. You will be greatly missed.

St. Mark's Provides Helping Hands to Marston Middle School Special thanks to Arlene Dempster, Phyllis Drewett and Renee Anderson for helping at a volunteer workshop at Marston Middle School. Fifty students made enrichment toys and blankets for the animals at the San Diego Humane Society. I co-led the workshop with a parent volunteer. Arlene, Renee and Phyllis provided calm guidance as the students completed the crafts. Thank you, ladies!
