                                                                                                        May 17, 2017

Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,

Well, as you may have just read in Fr. Oliver’s letter that just came out, I will be finishing out my final year at Assumption-St. Bridget School.  A faculty member pointed out today, that is was about 2 months ago that I used this same newsletter to dispel “word on the street” that my husband and I were moving.  And at that time, that was true!  This has been a very fast and unexpected turn of events.  Fr. Oliver’s letter included these words from me:
It is with much prayer, discernment, and counsel that my husband and I have decided to relocate to Missoula, MT at the end of this school year.  I have accepted the Principal position for the 2017-2018 school year at St. Joseph's School, the only Catholic elementary/jr. high in Missoula.
This decision was not an easy one.  However, given our family's personal journey over the past few years, it was also one we needed to make.  My husband David, has been commuting to the Bay Area in California for work since September.  While doing so, he is also working hard to manage and battle his CLL(chronic lymphocytic leukemia).  Montana has been on our radar for a long time but on a very different timeline.  When a Principal opening in Missoula in a Catholic school, I knew I had to give it a shot, an opportunity for work in Missoula for my husband landed in his lap too! When offered these positions, it truly was a quality of life decision for us and for our family.
These three years at ASB have been incredibly rewarding both professionally and personally.  Working alongside the ASB faculty and staff is something I will always treasure! The ASB students bring joy to my heart each day. Thank you also for the opportunity to partner with you as parents, pastors and parishioners.
This community has a very bright future due to the dedication of all of its stakeholders, built on a solid tradition of excellence in Catholic education.  This decision for me is bittersweet, but I look forward to hearing about the continued successes in store for all of ASB in the future.  My sincere thanks for the opportunity to serve this community.

I also want to share with you that Mrs. Anna Ramach will be joining the ASB community as a new sixth grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year!  Anna and her husband are relocating to Seattle from St. Louis and Anna brings 16 years teaching experience with her.  She is dedicated to Catholic schools and will be a wonderful addition to our team.  Anna writes:
“I am so excited to join the ASB school community for the 2017-2018 school year! Due to my husband's job, we are relocating to Seattle from St. Louis. For the past 16 years, I have taught math, science, and religion in either a 5th or 6th grade classroom. Those years were spent at two schools: Christ, Prince of Peace School in a suburb of St. Louis, and St. Elizabeth School in Kansas City, my hometown. I am looking forward to living in Seattle, and joining such a vibrant, faith-filled community! When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, reading, and cooking. I am looking forward to teaching 6th grade and getting to know the community at ASB next year!"
In closing, today we took our ASB second graders to Bishop Blanchet High School for the annual celebration of the sacraments Mass with the high schoolers, and hundreds of other second graders from throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle.  The newly confirmed high school alumni, joined with the second graders who just received their first reconciliation and Eucharist to celebrate Mass together.  It was simply beautiful.  Fr. Brian reminded the students to take advantage of the sacraments and stay “plugged in and charged” with the Holy Spirit!  What a great message for our young people but also for us.  In these closing weeks of school, let us all stay “plugged in” to each other, and the message of Jesus that makes us a Catholic school community.
ASB community will remain in my prayers long after I am gone.  Thank you again for the opportunity to serve.

 In Christ's Peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

TRAFFIC REVISION
As part of our on-going quest to limit our traffic impact on the neighborhood, we will be experimenting with a modified layout in the loop beginning later this month. The most significant change will be the addition of a fifth lane and a change in the turning radius at the top (or west side) of the loop. Watch for a more detailed email with specific instructions.
Registration & Book Fees ($375/per student) are billed each May for the coming year.  In other words, your last 2016-17 tuition payment was made this month (April), with no 2016-17 tuition payments due in May and June. Tuition payments for 2017-18 begin in July 2017, and go through April 2018. This is a reminder that your 2017-18 Registration ($250/student) and Book Fees ($125/student) -- $375/total per student -- will be billed via your FACTS account on May 20, 2017.

VICO Thank You!
The Student Council would like to thank you for your donations towards the VICO Educational Foundation.  As a school we raised $264 towards the education of Sara and Josue.  They are currently juniors in high school and through your donations the past couple of years, you have made it possible for them to continue their education.  Thank you!

Baseball Playoff News:
Two of our three ASB Baseball teams have qualified for CYO playoffs with the 6th grade team and the 8th grade team having their first playoff games this weekend.

6th grade team:
Sunday, May 21, at 12:00 p.m. at Walt Hundley Playfield #2,
vs. St. Anthony
8th grade team:
Sunday, May 21, at 3:00 p.m. at Walt Hundley Playfield #1
vs. St. Al/St. John

The 5th Grade team finished the season with a 2-5 record, but it was a very competitive freshman season for this group. Of the 5 losses, two were by forfeit due to not having enough players and two were one-run losses on the field. Next year this team is poised to do great things.  Great first season boys!

Please come out and cheer on the ASB Baseball teams this weekend - much less expensive and way more fun than watching the Mariner's lose to the White Sox.

Thanks to all the incoming families who attended our "May the Fourth Be With You" New Family Welcome Event - it was wild with the crazy thunderstorm, but it looks like these guys didn't care! These three look ready for PreK next year!

It's nearing the end of the school year, but we are still accepting applications for 2017-18 throughout all grades! It is not too late...

Remember our awesome Incentive Referral Program! If you refer a family that ends up enrolling, you are eligible for one month's tuition credit!

Please encourage any family interested in learning more about ASB to email me. Thank you

Over the last week, I began the process of inputting summer prepayment invoices into FACTS. If you have turned in paperwork for Camp ASB, KinderCamp or requested to be added to any of the field trip lists, I may be in communication with you this week, either by phone or by email to make sure that each family and I are on the same page about the charges being added to their FACTS account.

The Camp ASB Summer Calendar is now available on the ASB School website and is included in this newsletter. Registrations and prepayments for Camp ASB, including registration for the Camp ASB Field Trips, are now being accepted. Some field trips have a limited number of spaces and it is important for those families that want their children to attend, or need their children to attend Camp ASB on those days, to secure their spots. This can be done by contacting me or indicating your needs on the Camp ASB Registration Forms.

If you have any questions about Extended Care or Camp ASB, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Thank you,
Dylan Pouley
