Venus Rides

Sunday May 21st
All routes* leave from Full Cycle on Pearl Street. Please arrive 30 minutes before your route's rollout time to give yourself enough time to top off your tires, go to the restroom, visit with friends, and have a cup of coffee with your member discount!

This Week's Routes - Note the staggered start time for your route, so you don't miss it!

Our Venus weekend group rides are open to all members and alternate Saturdays and Sundays. If you are a paid Venus member, you have full access to all Full Cycle Bike Club (FCBC) rides and events! Non-members may ride with us once to try it out.

Next Venus weekend ride is Saturday May 27th

Wednesday Night South Boulder NCAR Repeats
NEW LOCATION! We meet at Murphy's South, 657 S. Broadway (across the lot from Southern Sun) at 6pm and ride up to NCAR once, twice, or how ever many times you can! Come out, meet some friends, have some fun! Please check in with the ride leader, and let them know if you plan to join the group afterward at Murphy's. We will let them know, and they will have a table ready for us. All checks will be separate and a gratuity will be added.

Full Cycle Bike Club (FCBC) Thirsty Thursday Night Ride
This week, you get the night off as it is Club Night. Next Thursday, May 25th, plan on departure from Full Cycle 6:05pm on a yet-to-be determined route. After our ride, we'll hang out in the new and continuously improving Full Cycle Café, with half off beverages for club members from 6pm to close.

Saturday FCBC Co-Ed Ride
This week, two groups, a faster group and a more leisurely paced group, will be riding out to watch some of the races at the Superior Morgul Bismarck! Plan on an 8:30am start from Full Cycle, then enjoy a 28-mile loop out to the US 36 Bike Path and to McCaslin Blvd to watch some racing before returning along the rest of the loop (if we are permitted on the race course) and back to Full Cycle on Pearl Street for post-ride refreshments and snacks.

Non-Club-Day Rides
Venus members, if you're interested in finding friends to ride with on a non-club-day ride, post your ride to the Venus de Miles Bike Club Facebook page. You'll be glad you did--chances are, someone will want to join you!

Ride Cancellation Policy

Safety is our first concern. Rides may be canceled when inclement or unsafe weather conditions are forecast for the location and time period of the ride. We will post cancellations to our Venus Facebook page at least two hours before the start of any scheduled ride. If unsafe conditions develop, a ride might be canceled right up to the time of departure. A ride might also turn back to the shop at any time if unsafe weather conditions develop.

Ride cancellation criteria:
  • Rain, snow, ice that will make roads wet or slippery;
  • National Weather Service Red Flag Warnings;
  • Consistent wind speeds of over 25 mph or gusts of over 50 mph;
  • Temperatures of less than 40 degrees or greater than 100 degrees;
  • Thunderstorms, snow, heavy rain;
  • Dry, high fire danger conditions.

*All routes are subject to modification by ride facilitators for safety reasons, including but not limited to road construction, events (running, cycling, parades, etc.), or an identified safer route alternative. We will try not to significantly impact the route distance.

Recent Rides

Saturday's club rides were awesome as always! The short route had a barrel o' fun doing the Gunbarrel Loop, the medium routes rocked NCAR and Eldorado Springs before swinging over to 75th and Jay on their ride, and the long routes conquered Olde Stage and the Plains. Woo hoo!

 Glenwood Getaway Destination Weekend

Join us for a long weekend of riding with girlfriends in breathtaking Colorado mountain scenery--we know these rides are on your bucket list! We've planned this event for Thursday July 13th to Monday July 17th, so you don't have to drive I-70 on Friday or Sunday (unless you want to).

  • The Rides - On Friday, we plan to ride the Glenwood Canyon Bike Trail and stop for a hike to Hanging Lake on the way back. Saturday, we explore as much of the 42-mile long Rio Grande Trail, connecting Glenwood and Aspen, as you are up for. We have several options for Sunday's ride--some options even have options!

  • Lodging - We are staying at the historic Hotel Denver, charmingly renovated with “delightful unexpected touches and old-world hospitality”. We have a block of rooms being held for us, half of which are already booked. They are only held until June 12th, so contact Sherri to book yours before they're gone!

  • Meals - We'll have lunch while we're out on our rides, and we have dinner reservations for the group on Friday and Saturday nights.

Click here for full details including Venus lodging. Our destination weekends are always a great mini-vacation, and we all need more vacations!

Eating Club with a Cycling Problem

Dear Flabby: Will cycling help me lose weight?
- Looking Lumpy in Lycra

ChocoMilk2.png
Dear Lumpy: First, congratulations on getting off of the couch and onto your bike! Biking will help you get fit and maybe even lose weight IF you don't stuff more calories into you than you burn on the ride. (Put down the spoon and step away from the whipped cream.)

For an excellent opportunity to learn about biking nutrition, attend the Venus Hydration and Sports Nutrition Clinic on Tuesday, May 30th. You will learn the in's and out's of nutrition and hydration, including when to eat and drink, what to eat and drink, and how to recover from daily and multi day rides.

While it's important to uphold our reputation as an eating club with a cycling problem, we need to eat right!

Safe Cycling for Women
Sponsored by Outdoor Divas

May 31, 2017
Doors open at 5:00pm for social hour/beverages for purchase
Program is 6:00 - 7:30pm. We will start promptly.
Hosted by Decadent Saint
1501 Lee Hill Drive, Unit 14
Boulder, CO 80304

Outdoor Divas Cycling invites you to join us for an important and valuable women’s event. Join us to listen to the experts speak about cycling safety and take advantage of the opportunity to get your questions answered. Leave empowered to ride safer using the knowledge and tools that are available.

Guest speakers include Megan Hottman, The Cyclist Lawyer; Ernest Ezis, creator of the Close Call Database; and Lance Enholm, Commander with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. The event is hosted at Decadent Saint in North Boulder. We hope you will be able to attend. Bring your girlfriends too. Let’s join to together to get smarter and be safer!

Megan Hottman is The Cyclist Lawyer. Megan has represented over 100 cyclists in their individual cases, as well as provided counsel to other plaintiff's lawyers, cycling groups, bike shops, and organizations. She is known by Colorado cyclists as well as her fellow attorneys as THE go-to lawyer for anything cycling-related. She provides frequent legal education seminars on biking laws, trends she sees in her cases and those nationwide, and education to both novice and veteran riders alike. She also provides educational and training opportunities to law enforcement officers.

Ernest Ezis is the creator of the Close Call Database and an avid cyclist. Cyclists use the website to identify and track aggressive motorists. Hostile drivers are often serial offenders. Cataloging their aggression and documenting their hostility helps to build a case against those drivers. Serial offenders can be brought to the attention of your local police who may encourage them to change their behavior before a tragedy occurs. Once a report is filed, the Close Call Database alerts every member within a 60-mile radius.

Lance Enholm is a Commander with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, an advocate for road safety, and a cyclist.

This event is FREE and seating is LIMITED!
To get your FREE ticket:
