Allergen labelling: a life and death matter

FSANZ is running a month-long campaign aimed at reminding food businesses about the need to get allergen labelling right. In 2016, there were 32 food recalls in Australia attributed to undeclared allergens. We hope to reduce that risk by educating food businesses about mandatory allergen labelling.

Food Allergy Week

Food Allergy Week kicks-off next week! Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia is calling on all Australians to unite during this week to help raise awareness for people who may suffer from food allergies. Find out more about how you can help at Food Allergy Aware.

Honey – what’s all the buzz about?

Imported honey has been featured in the media recently. Australian Laws require that imported honey meet the same safety standards as locally produced honey. You can read more about honey labelling and composition on our website.

New applications

FSANZ has completed an administrative assessment and prepared the following Application. An opportunity to comment will be available at a later date which will be publicly notified.

A1144 – Re-categorising Coconut Milk for Food Additive Permissions: to consider whether the food category for food additive permissions for coconut milk products is more appropriate under fruits, rather than beverages.

Calls for public comment

The following matters are open for public comment:

P1045 – Code Revision (2017): to make minor amendments including the correction of typographical errors, inconsistencies and formatting issues and updating of references.
A1127 – Processing Aids for Wine: to seek permission for the use of four processing aids, silver chloride, ammonium bisulphite, chitin-glucan and PVI/PVP as processing aids for wine.
A1140 – Food derived from Herbicide-tolerant Canola Line MS11: to seek approval for food derived from herbicide-tolerant, male-sterile canola line MS11, genetically modified to provide tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate-ammonium.

Amendment No. 169

Amendment No. 169 to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was published by FSANZ on 11 May 2017 (FSC 111). It included an amendment resulting from the following Proposal:

P1042 – Low THC Hemp Seeds as Food
