Right Wrongs: reflecting on 1967

27 May 2017 marks 50 years since Australians voted in a referendum to change how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were referred to in the Constitution. To commemorate this significant event in our history, Australian NSLA libraries, the ABC and AIATSIS have partnered to produce Right Wrongs, a digital exhibition that chronicles the lead up to 1967 and the events surrounding the referendum, as well as what has happened since.

He Tohu opens in Wellington

On 20 May the National Library of New Zealand officially opened He Tohu, a new permanent exhibition of three iconic constitutional documents that shape the nation:

  • the 1835 Declaration of Independence of the United Tribes of New Zealand
  • the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi
  • the 1893 Women's Suffrage Petition.

Previously housed at Archives New Zealand, the documents are displayed in a state-of-the-art conservation space surrounded by an interactive learning area.

Trove hits the road

The Trove team is hitting the road this May and June, visiting capital cities and regional centres to talk to GLAM organisations large and small about making their collections content available in Trove, improving the discovery of collections, and options for digitisation. Collection managers, archivists, curators, librarians, individuals involved in digitisation, and data specialists are all encouraged to attend these free events.
