CHANGING THE STIGMA OF MEMORY LOSS

Did you know there are more than 47 million people worldwide living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias? June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and sadly, it's something we all need to be thinking about. According to the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's kills more people than breast and prostate cancer -- combined. It's a disease that not only robs people of their memories, in many cases it robs them of their dignity.

When Growing Bolder learned of an innovative club that provides a setting that celebrates the capabilities of those living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, we had to see it for ourselves. We walked away from the Brain Fitness Club inspired, awed and passionate about sharing this exciting opportunity for growth and learning with you.
Molly Middleton Meyer lost both parents to Alzheimer’s and now her groundbreaking work is bringing hope, peace and happiness to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. “We can’t bring them back but we can go with them,” she says.

Embrace Growing Bolder Adventures and stop putting off your dreams!

Growing Bolder contributor Wendy Chioji recently spent 20 days in Southeast Asia and she's sharing her adventures with you! From kayaking through narrow openings into caves to enjoying 50-cent Pad Thai to getting up close and personal with elephants at a sanctuary that rescues "retired" elephants that worked in logging or tourism, Wendy's experiences will have you adding new stops to your personal travel bucket list.

Wendy, as many of you know, has also been battling thymic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer with few treatment options, for the past several years. Since November 2015, she's been enrolled in a clinical trial that has helped to stabilize her disease. When she returned from her trip, her doctors told her: “Your labs are good. Your scan says there may be slight growth, but we don’t think so. And by the way, your trial is closing on May 30th."

With her typical candor, humor and grace, Wendy shares what this means for the road ahead and why she still has one goal and mantra in mind: defy.
