Whatever good things we build end up building us.

Newsletter #3        -       May 31, 2017

Greetings to all!

It’s been another busy month here with the Maine Coast Craft School.

Kenneth was at Country Workshops in North Carolina with Drew and Louise for two weeks in the middle of the month.

Kenneth led a workshop to build a beautiful little (outhouse-sized) Coperthwaite style yurt, plus some work was accomplished on a few other projects around the place.

Kenneth brought back workbenches, tools and other teaching accoutrement which Drew won’t be needing so much as he and Louise head into a simpler life of retirement.

We are so grateful to Drew and Louise
for their guidance and support as we move into a future modeled after their work as teachers and hosts of workshops in green woodcraft.
They have big shoes to fill.
Our on-line store is about to launch!

It’s finally time - we will launch our online store this

Friday, June 2nd, between 1pm and 3pm EST.

We have received our first (and very small) shipment of
axes and knives from Svante and Elsa Djarv.

There is a lot of interest in these high quality, hand made Swedish tools, perhaps because we are the only US distributor of their work.
Certainly they are popular and well-known because they were a staple of the Country Workshops store and from lots of craftspeople’s appreciation of their quality and utility.

We also have Mora knives, sheaths and more.
Go to our website at
mainecoastcraft.com
and you'll see the store under the menu tab, once the hour is here.

We ordered as many tools as we could afford this first time around,
which is not as much as will satisfy the demand we have been receiving. Apologies ahead of time for how few there are.

The second order (which we have already placed) is larger,
but Elsa Djarv informed me that it will probably not be delivered
until the spring of 2018.

We are still waiting on our shipment of Hans Karlsson tools to arrive,
no word yet as to when that will be.
I will post them on the website store when they come in.
Again, the demand for and interest in these tools is huge,
judging by our email inbox.

The adzes especially are popular. Unfortunately for everyone wanting one,
the Karlssons have a limit to how many they are willing to make per order.
The few that we ordered will certainly not be enough to make
everyone happy, but we will order more as soon as we can.

Kenneth has been developing relationships with several US toolmakers, who also produce tools in small numbers like the Djarvs and the Karlssons, hand forged and of high quality.

These connections are proving fruitful, so we expect that we will have some comparably high-quality US made adzes and axes available soon.
I will keep you posted via future newsletters.

Several of our workshops have filled,
and several in the autumn are still waiting for students.

We are thinking of adding a Welsh Windsor Chair class
and perhaps a bowl and spoon workshop sometime in the fall.

If you are interested in either of those courses please be in touch,
we have a waiting list.

Finally, here is a link to our latest work on the blog - it is called:

or, timber frame recycling & archaeology

             That's it for now.
All the best to all of you,
