3 Documentaries You Must See!
We are only THREE weeks away from finishing our tutoring for the school year. We will be done on Thursday, June 8th. SDRT will begin tutoring again in September 2017. Please RSVP for as many of our last six sessions as possible. While we were short 20 tutors this past Tuesday, we let you all know and you came through with even a few extra tutors on Thursday night! Thank you! We aren't taking any new tutors for these three weeks so we need YOU.

Tuesdays free after tutoring ends because you will NOT want to miss the chance to see these important refugee films on
June 13th, 20th and 27th. These are all hosted by the IRC (International Rescue Committee), the agency that helps resettle most of our families. These are always incredible, thought provoking films that include a Q&A time after with expert speakers on the topics in each documentary.
This year's films are...
June 13th: Nowhere to Hide Five years of dramatic change in war-torn central Iraq seen through the lens of Iraqi nurse and father Nori Sharif.
June 20th (World Refugee Day): Warehoused Warehoused highlights the plight of long-term refugees over the course of history, culminating in today’s refugee crisis. The film sheds light on the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing refugees across the globe through an intimate glimpse into daily life at Dadaab, Kenya -- the world’s largest refugee camp.
June 27th: Refugee Kids Following students at a New York City youth program for children seeking asylum, the film gives an account of resettlement in America as their lives unfold over the course of one formative summer.
These will all be at the
Landmark Hillcrest Cinemas at 7pm. All ticket sales go toward funding programs at the IRC (their programs immensely help our families learn English, complete citizenship paperwork, job training, and so much more!)

Our Art Show : June 6th (5pm)
Even if you can't tutor, please plan to stop by between 5-6:15pm and admire all the incredible art that the children have been working on with
The Fox Collaborative over the past two trimesters. You are sure to be blown away. And, the kids LOVE showing off what they have done. Because few of our kids' parents will come, we need YOU to lend your support and encouragement to our kids.
Books Galore: June 8th
Thanks to those of you who have collected books for our kids! Our cabinets are currently exploding with books and we are ready for
June 8th (also our last day of tutoring)! Come and tutor and you will get to take your student into our 'Book Celebration' where they will each get TEN books to take home! Thanks for hooking us up each trimester!
