'Life doesn't make any sense, and we all pretend it does. Comedy's job is to point out that it doesn't make sense, and that it doesn't make much difference anyway.'
Eric Idle

Writing for Have I Got News For You
At the Craft of Comedy event in April, HIGNFY writer Ged Parsons ran a competition for aspiring comedy writers to enter jokes for a selection of images. The winning writers have since had the opportunity to submit jokes for HIGNFY itself, getting feedback from Ged each week!
Comedy Crowder Lorna Woolfson (recent winner of the Write a Chort competition) was one of the successful writers, and along with Ged she has been good enough to share her entries and feedback. This is a must read for anyone wanting to write satirical jokes. Check it out here
And another of the successful Comedy Crowders, Stevie Cooke (creator of existential emoji and Moaner Lisa), got lines on last week's show. Stevie is trialling some more of her comedy writing at a scratch night this Thursday. You can join her here
Be creative with your comedy events
Comedy group Amelia trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade and are now showing their funny stuff across London.
Rather than doing traditional comedy shows, they have created events with a more interactive experience.
We went along to What The Foxtons on Friday night and it was a great show, a full on estate agent head to head battle, with a house warming party at the end. Lynsey Bonell has written a great article about how Amelia are creating these original live shows. Read it here
From website to TV
BBC 2 recently ordered a full series of satirical comedy The Mash Report. This follows the growth and success over the last 10 years of satirical website The Daily Mash, and is another great example of how growing an audience online can lead to industry recognition and ultimately TV production. Read more here
