It's been a while since we last sent an UpDAYte out.  We've been busy delivering DAY Session Leader training in Havant and in Sittingbourne.   Recently DAY Director Natalie Collins did a podcast with youthwork organisation Youthscape, listen to it HERE.  This update is so packed full of useful ideas, resources and information that your email provider may have shortened the email to ensure it fits, if that is the case, do click on the "view this email in your browser" link at the top of this email.

July Training


We are hoping to run DAY Session Leader Training in London in July.  This is dependent on getting enough training participants to make the course viable.

Ariana Grande Tweet

Ariana Grande tweeted a reflection on being objectified by men.  This tweet could be used to start a discussion with young people about the nature of how women are sexualised and objectified.  CLICK HERE to read the tweet.  You could also use the responses to the tweet to talk about how victim blaming works.

Free Lesson Plans

Plan International UK have developed a set of free lessons plans to consider the impact of gender based violence with young people.  You can access them HERE.
 

Safe Stories

The Safe Project in Oxfordshire has developed a website to highlight some of the issues being faced by teenagers as a result of mobile and internet technologies.  The characters of Maddie, Mitchell, Katie and Jess were created during group sessions with young people who had been supported by the Safe Project.  The video stories are designed to be accessed directly but can also be used in conversation with young people by professionals and parents.  Access the website HERE.
 

FAQs on statutory sex and relationship education

The government has recently agreed to make sex and relationship education compulsory in schools.  The Sex Education Forum has a FAQ section on their website to explain how this will work.  Access the FAQs HERE.

THIS is a great sex education site from the Society for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Canada.  


Parenting One Click Ahead of Porn

THIS book gives advice on parenting to protect children and young people from being exposed to pornography.

Reminder: Gender Reconciliation

Natalie is organising a Gender Reconciliation Workshop with GRI.  This is a challenging and valuable 3-day workshop for those interesting in learning about the deep wounds between men and women and exploring ways to heal from those wounds.  Find out more about the training by CLICKING HERE.
