19 Seasons in the Chugach!
Wow, we couldn't have done it without you.

May 2017

Hello Skiers and Riders!

We hope this finds you well and enjoying the spring!

Our 2017 season has officially wrapped up and that means it's time for our annual newsletter as we now prepare for our 20TH ANNIVERSARY!

Reflecting on this past season

What a wild and crazy season it was! The season started with a state wide wind event and blue skies, with winds over 100mph sustained for a couple weeks in the alpine. It was then followed by unseasonably cold temperatures and continued sunny skies, which lasted for another week or two. Thankfully our local ski area, Mt Eyak is protected and we could at least get out and make turns.

We all know the saying "it's not nice to mess with Mother Nature" so we did our best to respect her wishes. With that in mind, we needed lots of patience, sympathy and customer service. Most everyone was very understanding and we look forward to having them all back to experience the Chugach properly.

We owe a very big THANK YOU to all of our guests, staff, pilots and of course, Orca Adventure Lodge for "hanging in there" the first few weeks of the season. We do everything to ensure the best possible experience, we just cannot control the weather.

As the Chugach tends to have magical powers in healing itself, it did just that. The end of March brought ample amounts of new snow and the season was back on again! We were blessed with great conditions, stability, and blue skies. The Chugach was back to providing guests with the best days of their lives!

"Finding the Line"

PNH played host to Anna & Nat Segal along with world Freeride Champion, Lorraine Huber, to film their new movie, “Finding the Line”. We are excited to support these amazing ladies as they conquer their fears while finding their lines. Their continued passion for the mountains is contagious. They have worked hard and countless hours to raise support for their project and it was pretty exciting to see them come home with big smiles after each day of filming. They spent their first week at PNH Tour Camp working hard on the human power side of their passion and the second week at our heli base, exploring the vast regions of the Chugach with the power of the A-star helicopter. The photos speak for themselves. Way to go girls! Make sure to check out their movie this fall.

PNH Staff Updates

New Members to the PNH Family

Springtime is the time for little ones. We would like to send out a big CONGRATULATIONS to PNH Guide Kevin Bibby who had a little baby girl this spring and PNH Guide "Shred" Ed Shanley who had a little baby boy. We cannot wait to meet them.

Romance in the Chugach

With the engagement of PNH guide Paul Krekow and Laura Kearsley what else can we say other than it's just awesome! We are so happy for them! Paul met Laura at Points North a couple of years ago and the special connection and magic between them was pretty apparent to all of us! Paul was always late for the guide meetings that year. He was in a tragic accident this past summer after a lady ran him over on his bike and we really did not think he would be back to join us this year. With his incredible stamina and will to heal, and of course Laura by his side, he was back to better than ever. He surprised us all on week 7 by asking Laura to marry him in the “Pencil Coulior” just next to “Coogans". Laura, who is an incredibly talented athlete herself, as well as a doctor, has since become a big part of the PNH family. Paul is extremely lucky she said yes and we are lucky to have them both!

Squaw Valley Royalty

Allen Riley: PNH could not be more proud of "Allz" being named the new Chief of the Squaw Valley Fire Department. Allen has been working for the SVFD for over 25 years. He is now the man in charge!

Will Paden, “Commander Will": After 24 years of his hard dedication and work at Squaw Valley / Alpine Meadows, Will was named the new Director of the Squaw Valley Patrol. What an accomplishment!

Both of these guys have been part of the PNH family for many, many years. Although their busy schedules do not allow them to come up to PNH each year, they will always be a large part of what we do here and we could not be more happy and proud of their new and exciting roles in life!
