From the Principal
This past Wednesday night I had the privilege of attending and being part of the 2017 Senior Awards and Scholarship event where we had the honor of recognizing over 80 of our graduating 12th grade students. Collectively, the Class of 2017 has been exceptional, and a special one knowing it represents our 100th graduating class. Wow!

Each year when I think back and reflect upon another school year that is about to come to a close, I always see this recognition event as one of the highlights of the year, a night I look forward to for months beforehand. While the upcoming Graduation night is pretty important and represents the culmination of four years of hard work for over 350 Tech High School students, Wednesday’s event represents four years of going above and beyond. It represents so much more that just average. These seniors are the true leaders of tomorrow, and it gives me great satisfaction to recognize each for striving for so much more than a diploma. They have raised the bar on their own expectations and showcased their talents to achieve at high levels.

In addition to recognizing several students for their service and commitment to Tech HS as well as to the St. Cloud community, our seniors were recognized with over $115,000 worth of in-house Scholarships. That’s in addition to the several hundred thousands of dollars in scholarships seniors will be awarded through the college or university they plan to attend. Another great testament to the amazing successes of our Seniors.

New High School Update
On April 27, May 2, and May 3, teams of high school and District staff met with architects to develop in more detail the design of specific learning spaces. For example, a team of science teachers and staff worked with architects to determine layouts of science classrooms. Some of the details included having fixed versus flexible lab spaces and how these areas compliment the regular instructional areas within the same space.  Similar subgroup meetings occurred with CTE, FACS, Special Education, Music, Art, Theater, Food Service, Maintenance, General Learning, Media Center, Physical Education, Activities, and Administration. Over 60 staff members were involved and provided much needed direction as architects continue in the developmental design phase of the project. Follow up meetings for each of these areas continues as we finish the current school year.

Also, architects continue their work with the necessary environmental agencies in efforts to attain the required construction permits that will allow the new Tech High School project to move forward within aggressive timelines. The goal is to break ground later this year with an opening of the new Tech High School still slated for the fall of 2019.
Activities News
We are nearing the end of the regular season for spring sports and playoffs are set to begin. Here are some results:
Baseball: They are having a fantastic year! Currently 16-0 in the CLC and 20-0 overall, won the CLC title and currently ranked #1 in the state. Playoffs begin on May 30.

Softball: They finished the regular season 7-7 in the CLC and 9-11 overall. Playoffs have started and are currently 1-1. They play St. Michael/Albertville on May 30. Senior Reagan Lyle signed with the University of Wisconsin.

Boys Tennis: They won the CLC title again this year. Finishing 10-0 in the CLC and 14-3 overall. They're the #1 seed in the north sub-section and return as section champions. The team advanced to the section semi-finals which is held on Friday, May 26.

Boys Golf: They finished 5th overall in the CLC. Mason Sunder was All-Conference. The team has sections on May 30-31 at the Preserves in Brainerd.

Girls Golf: Had their last CLC meet on May 23 at Wapicada, which is Tech’s home course. They will also compete at sections on May 30-31 at the Preserves in Brainerd.

Max Martig (long jump) and Jodi Lipp (long and triple jump) qualified for the prestigious Hamline Elite meet earlier this year. They both did very well. The team had CLC on May 23 and sections will be on May 31 and June 3. We have several athletes that have a chance of qualifying for the state tournament.
Boys Lacrosse: They are currently 2-9 on the season, in almost every game, and are starting to play well. Their playoffs begin May 30.

Girls Lacrosse: They are 8-3 this season and playing well right now. Two regular season games remain with playoffs to follow on May 30.

Adapted Softball: They are back after a few years of not having a team and are currently 7-2. They qualified for the state tournament and will start play on June 2.

Water Walk for Kenya
Tech Students in Junior Rotarians, Junior Kiwanis, and the Tech We Act club organized a Water Walk for Kenya on May 13 at Lake George. Over 80 people attended the walk with over $1000 raised in donations. Before the walk, We Act students held a change drive as well as collected pledges during the We are Silent campaign. The total collections went well beyond our $1500 goal to help install a clean water pump or well in a Kenyan village in addition to raising awareness to the water needs in other parts of the world.
